dragcarz Posted March 30 Posted March 30 For those of you that followed my Billy the Kid Demon build, you may recall that I stated I would build a couple out of the box builds before tackling another in depth build. So here’s what I’m working on now. The AMT 36 Ford has been around for many years, reissued in many different versions. A convertible, a three window coup, a five window coupe, and a chopped three window coupe. I have several of these kits including the original small box version. My favorite version of this kit is the one with the Gasser box art. This kit comes with a cardboard diorama of a drag strip. If my memory is correct, AMT also released similar kits including the 57 Chevy, and the 56 Ford. I decided I liked the 5 window version for my build and proceed to build it in 1960s gasser style. The roofs are separate in this kit and are notorious for poor fitting. I glued and clamped one side, and after it dried I glued and clamped the other. Doing it in this way kept bodywork to a minimum. I cut out the floor pans from the frame to remove the molded in exhaust. The kit comes with Flat Head and Pontiac engines, but I thought the AMT parts pack 427 would be better. 4
NitroMarty Posted March 31 Posted March 31 I'll be watching this one for sure... Love the mocked up stance!
Zippi Posted March 31 Posted March 31 That is goinig to be a nice build there Roger. I built two of these kits, the AMT 5- Window Coupe and the Revell 3- window Coupe and they both had poor fit issues with the roof. I really like the 35/36/37 body styles. I'll be watching the one.

I’m hoping Bob, I got a job 😢. So this is going to be kept simple. I really like these years of Fords also. You don’t see many as gassers though.
dragcarz Posted March 31 Author Posted March 31 I sanded the roof smooth to remove the cloth insert, a filled roof is much cooler. I stripped the chrome off the motor and filled the sink marks. Trying to try some different wheels, going for the right look. I also removed the running boards. 2
dragcarz Posted April 5 Author Posted April 5 I got it painted, Testors little bottle Red Metalflake #1529, Splash 2K clear. Engine built, now doing the fitting in the chassis and body. I removed most of the front crossmember and scratch built the front axle. Changed the wheels. 3 2
TarheelRick Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Great looking build, really like that red color. I got one in work (LOL), but I am going Altered class using an Ardun flattie. Hope mine looks as good as yours.
Zippi Posted April 5 Posted April 5 Boy that looks good. That Testors Red Mealflake looks really nice.

dragcarz Posted April 6 Author Posted April 6 In true 1960s style of Show &Go, a white interior Metalflake Red roll bar and dash. Looking for a steering wheel. We’re getting close. 2
Nitro330 Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Hey Roger, glad to see you back at it with what looks like a fun build. Love the color with the white interior, all looks great. You know I like a cool gasser. I have a gasser in line with my builds, but there's 3 other builds in front of it!

Thanks Terry, it’s been a fun build so far. Just a slump buster, minimal detailing and modifications. I’ve had a crazy week, I put a water pump and radiator in my oldest daughter’s Jeep, and Wednesday my younger daughter had someone pull out in front of her and she totaled her Jeep. She seems to be ok which I very thankful for. So some my time will be spent repairing it. Bench time is getting harder to find and my build list is so long. I still want to put something together for ACME, and I’ve already missed some shows I would have liked to attended.
