SaraEmma88 Posted Sunday at 11:16 PM Posted Sunday at 11:16 PM Hello, all! My grandfather passed away a few years ago and I’ve been given his model car collection. I have no idea what these beautiful cars are! He left only one with a handwritten note about a 1947 Kurtis Sprint car (pictured below outside for natural light, but is kept indoors), but little else explaining his collection. I’m in Louisiana, does anyone know where I could go to get detailed information on the cars he has? Thank you to anyone who can help! I’m just so lost and would love any help I can get to ensure I know what these models are! Sincerely and respectfully, A confused, but very interested Granddaughter
stavanzer Posted Monday at 02:38 PM Posted Monday at 02:38 PM Good Morning, Sara. I am sorry for your loss. There are many people on here who may be able to help you. A couple of hints for you. 1. If you post more photos of the collection, could you put a ruler or dollar bill next to the model so we can get sense of how big the model is? 2. A photo of the whole collection, and then photos of the individual cars will be best for getting some idea of what you have. Lastly, the model you show, looks very large and very well built! If that is your Grandfather's work, he was an Excellent Builder! 1
SaraEmma88 Posted Monday at 04:30 PM Author Posted Monday at 04:30 PM Stavanzer, Thank you so much for your help! I have two of his model cars with me, but I can get the rest and post them all later this evening! I am posting images of my two favorites, I think one of them is as close to a fancy car as I’ll ever get! The first two images are of the 1947 Kurtis Sprint car and the rest are from a Bugatti Type 35 (the paperwork says it’s one of ten models by Art Collection Auto). Do forgive any reflections, I’m afraid to take off the case! And my Grandfather, though an avid collector, was not a builder. Spooker, my grandfather’s name was Frederick (Dick) Place! I’m unsure if he was active in the community, though! Again, thank you so much! I will post all photos this evening to see if anyone has any info! Sincerely, A now hopeful and excited Granddaughter 1

Which he shared with Phil Hill, apparently: https://www.goodingco.com/lot/1924-bugatti-type-35-grand-prix-model-by-art-collection-auto/ That's good company to be keeping.... 😜 best, M. 1
Bugatti Fan Posted Tuesday at 07:17 AM Posted Tuesday at 07:17 AM (edited) Sara, It would appear that your grandfather's collection might be very valuable judging by the Art Collection Bugatti alone. It is a superbly engineered model. The sort of thing that the Bugatti Trust's Museum here in the UK would love to display. It ready depends on what you want to do with the collection as a whole. Many contributors on here could probably simply identify them for you just by seeing any photos. If on the other hand it you are planning to dispose of the collection, I would suggest you get in touch with a reputable auction house like Bonhams, Christies or Sothebys who have specialist valuers/auctioneers. Send them photos and descriptions of the models. They have experts in this field who could certainly get the best return for you if you wish to sell the models on. EBay I would suggest is NOT the best place to sell a collection like this. Too many would make derisory bids to try and take advantage. You would also have the problem of listing them and pricing them individually, as well as packaging them to avoid damage and cost of posting. Hope this helps.
