hey guys,

here is what i have been working on the last few days

its a AMT/ERTL 1979 firebird trans am

it was by far the worst kit i ever had the displeasure of building and i am still considering to throw it out

at any rate, i bought this kit for my father in laws birthday because i think he like the screamin chicken decal on it

got the kit of ebay where it was advertised as being a complete kit

so when i got it was missing the decals and tail lights

also, someone had glued the wheelspindles to the inner wheels

(real PITA to fix that)

on top of that the kit just does not go together well

i must have cut of almost 1/2 an inch of the bottom of the dash to get the tub to fit hlafway decent

there are massive gaps in between the inner and outer fenders

and well, its just a lousy kit

so here goes

special thanks go out to bob bauman who supplied a set of tail lights  couldnt have done it without them

Don't be ashamed to show your work here. That kit is indeed rough to begin with , but you did just fine.

Tell ya what - if you want you can send it to me. B)

I did throw mine in the junk box...that has to be one of the most horrible kits ever produced.

Ya did a good job with that one....

Great job with a hard to build kit! Thats the old MPC kit, and yes, its a pretty bad kit. Just remember though, the REAL ones didn't fit together very well either! B)

i would send it over but like i said, it was build as a birthday present so i gave it to my father in law yesterday

he liked it very much and was telling every one how he is going to save this one and give it to his grandchild one day if he ever has one that likes cars enough to have these scale models.

and then it slipped out of his hands and he dropped it

so its right back on my bench again

nothing too horrible, both front wish bones and wheels came off, one exhaust pipe, a side view mirror, the radiator hose and the rear license plate

shouldnt be too bad to fix

i think you made the right choice

if i had more time i would have done the same

nevertheless, thanks for the kind words guys B)

Can anyone recommend a good 79 Trans Am kit? MPC had one called the Black Bird, but I'm assuming it's similar to this one. I'm looking at building the Year One Bandit and that calls for this gen kit, but if it's really as bad as people say it is I don't think I want to bother with it. Lol.

Your best bet is to get the Monogram 1/24 78 Firebird 3n1 kit ,and use the front and rear clips from the Testors 1980 Firebird kit. The front ends were the same from 79-81 , so you should be ok.
