Nick Winter Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Which model trqain scale is the closest to 1/24- 1/25 scale?
dptydawg Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Hi Nicholas. The train scale you are looking for is "G" scale. However there are about 4 different scales that all use the same gauge of track. G scale track is 45mm between the rails. This gives a standard North American rail scale of 1/29th scale. Aristocraft and USATrains use this scale. European trains of this guage are 1/22nd scale. All LGB trains are this scale. Narrow 3' gauge trains are 1/20.3 scale. Most Bachman models are this scale. Take your pick. I think the building kit makers are mostly 1/24th scale. and some 1/32nd scale trains use the same track I hope this helps more than it confuses. Carl
Eshaver Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Nicholas , Carl is correct. we have a " G " scale dealer here in Richmond Va. I refer to the place as the Toy museuem and the N A Z I 's that work there really are offended when someone disturbs their moment of tranquility as the store is in a very " Exclusive " neighborhod . The children all attend prestigious Catholic schools and the " official car is a Volvo Wagon . Now as to the price of that G scale , ya don't wanna know ! Ed Shaver
Foxer Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Not sure what kind of stuff you might be looking for so I'll add the 1/24 scale is also 1/2" = 1'-0" which is a common scale for doll house items too.

LUKE'57 Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Just to clear up things a little. I worked for a fairly large wholesale hobby distributor for almost 15 years and "G", like "S", "HO", "O" and "N" isn't a scale. It is a guage, refering to the distance between the rails. LGB, one of if not the most respected and prolific manufacturers of this size train equipment consideres it 1/22.5 and with the difference in sizes of real people and buildings taken into consideration, you can pretty much get by using anything in the scenic realm in G with our 1/24 cars.
dptydawg Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 Hi Nicholas, what part of Ontario are you from? I might know of a Garden railroad dealer near you. As or accessories you could check out "Larry's G scale " http://www.larrygscale.com/servlet/StoreFront. He has a ton of stuff that might be what you are looking for. Thanks Carl

lordairgtar Posted August 29, 2009 Posted August 29, 2009 (edited) A company in the UK produces model truck kits for garden railways and the advertised scale is 1/24th. I think the company name is Emhar. They make Bedford trucks. http://z6.invisionfree.com/The_Modelers_Ha...?showtopic=8287 Edited August 29, 2009 by lordairgtar
DanRaitz Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 (edited) Which model trqain scale is the closest to 1/24- 1/25 scale? FYI, here is a link to the National Model Railroad Association site for their list of scales. http://www.nmra.org/beginner/scale.html You can see they do not show "G" as a scale but as a gauge (see Carl's post above). For G gauge stuff check out Grandt Line, Pola, Preiser. Dan Edited August 30, 2009 by DanRaitz
dptydawg Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Hi Nicholas I think there is a G scale dealer out in the Coburg/Port Hope area. I've never been there so I can't help you there. Other than the usual collection of train places in Toronto the best G scale spots are in Guelph and Aliston. Both are a bit on a road trip for you though. Carl
