MrObsessive Posted November 26, 2009 Author Posted November 26, 2009 Bruce, the pads are okay------for mostly flat surfaces. I like the cloths because they can be folded up and into tight corners if needed. For broad sections such as roofs, trunks, or hoods for example the pads are great!
Harold Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 (edited) Hope things are going OK, Bill. I need to see how this story ends Edited December 9, 2009 by Harold
Peter Lombardo Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Bill, I just noticed the picture at the bottom of your posts....sorry to see that your cat, KitKat, passed away. I hope you're ok. I know how difficult it can be to lose a good friend and pet. We have 3 "inside" cats, 2 outside cats and we are fostering 3 kittens, two female and one male, from the two outside cats. The 3 kittens will be headed over to PetSmart for adoption in a week or two, but they are so cute and playful that we will miss their antics. Anyway, hope you are ok with your loss, and I have to tell you that I have enjoyed your tutorial, no matter how experienced we think we are, we can always revisit the basics a pick up something that we thought we were doing....but were not.
vizio93 Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 I've been watching this thread a while now and I just want to say thank you. No matter what you've learned over the years you still have room for more. This one will definitely be bookmarked
MrObsessive Posted December 10, 2009 Author Posted December 10, 2009 Sorry for the long wait for an update fellas.......the last couple weeks I haven't been much into a building mood as you can see by my signature picture. Add in also that I went back to work last week after my foot injury, things have been rather upside down lately. KitKat had been sick off and on for the last six months or so------he ended up having liver failure which led to him eating very sporadically, and eventually he stopped drinking water. It is hard to come home from work and he's no longer at the door like he always had been. I'm not sure exactly how old he was------- when the Vet checked him out they had his birthdate as January 2001. I got him from a lady I worked with back in June 2002, and I don't think she was sure how old he was as she had guessed his age when she originally had him to the Vet. I figured he was somewhere between 9 and 13 years old. More than likely closer to 13-14. The good news is, I'll be getting a new kitten this weekend. My cousin has a couple kittens she has to let go as that makes four cats in her place, and that's too much for her she tells me. I told her to bring him over Saturday, as I want my other cat to see her bring him in and not me. I now have to "kitten proof" my place as I have don't want him in certain areas in the house. Places like the model room, behind the washer and dryer, etc. Thanks once again for the condolences fellas.........some who don't have pets don't quite understand, but they do become part of your family and when they pass away, it really hurts deep.
Chuck Kourouklis Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 My condolences too, Bill. And my congratulations and gratitude for this thread - it's truly one of the greatest I've ever seen on finishing a car model.
vizio93 Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Thanks once again for the condolences fellas.........some who don't have pets don't quite understand, but they do become part of your family and when they pass away, it really hurts deep. I'm sorry to here about your cat. I was never really a cat person, but losing any animal is hard. I had a boxer that was my best friend growing up. He got MS in his back legs when he was about 9 years old. He used to stay outside in a fenced in area around the back of our old house. When we moved to the new house we had to keep him in the basement all day because we didn't have a place for him yet. I would take him for walks and we would sit outside when I got home every day. After a while he couldn't use his back legs at all. We had to have him put down. It was sad, but he was better off. I don't know your religion, but I can picture my dog running around heaven chasing birds and rabbits . Maybe your cat is right beside my dog chasing them too
asco Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Ouch, it always hurts to lose a loved family member. I can feel Your pain, I've lost various cats during I've had them. I do have 2 of them right now, and in past I've lost 2 who were overran by a car, and one left under the train. One I had to get to the vet because he got some kind of cancer or something, went to very bad shape in quite a short time. Etc etc. I hope You'll get over this (too) later, take Your time, and cheer up with the newbie in house when You got the kitten...
lowriderphil Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Sorry to hear about your Kitkat, we recently lost our manecoon of 12 years. He suffered a pair of cesures(sp) in the middle of the night, took him to the emergency vet and they said he appeared fine at the time but they didn't know how long to expect. He was good until later that evening when he peacefully curled up and went to sleep. Its good to hear that you have a the kind of cat that will easily welcome a new arrival. Phil
crazyjim Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Pets. I've always been a dog person until I met Marcia (now my wife). She had 2 cats - Midas & Sabrina. Midas got sick and had to be put to sleep before we came to FLA. Sabrinaa made the trip and loved it down here. She was never allowed out of the house up north, but down here we let her out into the screened lanai. She loved it! She chased lizards, took sips of water from the pool, and just lounged in the sun. She had it good. Her liver went and we had to put her to sleep July 2008. Like I said, I'm a dog person, but I cried like a baby when the vet gave Sabrina the final injection. People who have never had critters can't understand how a person can get so close to a pet. My heart reaches out to you Bill.
Harold Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 My condolences, Bill. Yes, it is hard to lose a family member (which is what pets are).
seeker589 Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Bill - I am very sorry for your loss. While I don't have a feline friend (due to allergies) - I fully understand the unique bond between cats and their "hosts" (no-one ever owns a cat!). May your cousin's gift bring warmth and love to your home for a very long time. I, too am enjoying this post quite a bit. I am moved by your persistance, patience with both the build, and the questions we all have. All this in the face of adversity. Bill - you are a man of character and a gentleman. I look forward to meeting you at a model gathering in the near future - even if it just to shake your hand. Since we are close - Lancaster and Steelton - I am sure I won't have to wait long. Every once in a while warm fuzzies must enter our lives - even if it is between coats of paint on your next project!
Fuel Coupe Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Bill, Sorry for your loss. I have always had dogs but you are right they become part of your family. Our girl is 11 now and she has slowed down some and has lost her hearing some but she still is very active. She sleeps with my son every night and to this day "senses" when he on his way home from school She has been the best pet we have ever had. she will be hard to replace. My thoughts are with you big guy...

Sorry to hear about your loss Bill, about 6 years ago My dog died, he was 15 at the time, he was really my mom's dog but I grew up with him around, it was hard not having him here, but after a few months we went to get another dog, Max, he's 6 now. Still miss Scooner though. not too often but he was a part of the family, my brothers and sisters grew up with him first and then I started too. Here's Max doing what he does best, snoozing. Kenny Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Hey Bill, sorry for your loss. I also have a cat and even though she jumps up on my workbench or my lap at the absolute worst times, steals small parts, and gets cat hair everywhere, she is a good companion. She also greets me at the door and makes me laugh.
cruz Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Well my friend, you know how I feel about your pain, you've seen my babies and what I think of them, nothing hurts more than having a pet that feels ill specially since they are not able to talk to you. Hope that the next one does a good job of alleviating your pain, I have a good feeling it will. Hosted on Fotki
BRIAN46 Posted January 9, 2010 Posted January 9, 2010 Hello Mr. Bill, Hope you are feeling better and are staying warm. I thing this cold weather is everywhere even here in South Texas. When will you be starting back on your Basis 101 class. It has been awhile since I saw anything. Keep up the good work. Brian
MrObsessive Posted January 10, 2010 Author Posted January 10, 2010 Hi Brian.............Yes it's too cold here especially in Central PA! I got kinda burned out on building for awhile..........not to mention things are REALLY busy where I work with overtime kicking in and all. I've also got chiropractor appointments a couple times a week due to tailbone pain (it's working BTW) so there just hasn't been much time for building. I may start something new (resin) to get the building mood started again........hopefully I can get the 'Merc buttoned up by the end of the month. Beside the interior, there isn't much more to add the build. Thanks for asking!
Old Buckaroo Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Hi Bill, Hope things have been going well for you lately. I sure enjoyed this Fantastic series on the Merc. and have learned a lot. Hopefully by dredging this up out of the depths you may be Motivated to blow the dust off the kit and Wow us some More.

Dr. Cranky Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Bill, I love the brown primer for the undercarriage idea . . . Folks, last night my boy, Midnight Special, died suddenly in his sleep. He had been born with a cleft palate and I saved it's life by tube feeding him for months until he learned to eat all by himself. He had other problems and they caught up to him . . . He's in a much better world today. Sorry I busted in on your thread, Bill, but all this talk of dogs . . .
MrObsessive Posted March 12, 2010 Author Posted March 12, 2010 Oh Virgil, I'm soooo sorry to hear that! He was a cute dog. It's amazing how pets can very quickly become part of the family. I still think of KitKat from time to time, even though I got a new kitten back in January. The new one doesn't replace him (she's a very different personality), but at least it's giving a home to a cat that otherwise would be out on the street.
Guest 85Biarittz Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Lost my best friend around 5 months ago. Had him for 13 years. So while nothing can replace the one you lost you will have new memories with your new one.
crazyjim Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Non-pet people can't understand how it feels to lose a critter. Sorry for your losses guys.
