I have a Monogram Chevelle kit here that i'm building. The one from 1980 to be exact. It's OK I guess. Kinda simple as they did it back then. My question is.

Who makes the best kit of this Year/Make/Model???

I have the MCG Detail set. I already painted the car [italian Red Laquer over grey primer]. It's going to be nice but after some research i see things that are not right, or omitted altogether. I'm not going to go crazy with this build but i want it to be fairly accurate.

So who makes the nicest one?

TIA

In my opinion, the most accurate BODY for a 70 Chevelle is in the 'snap kit' version tR/M does with the molded in in hood, but the cowl induction hood isn't quite right.Other then that,I don't like ANY of them, would LOVE to see a new tooling by somebody.....

I did a search for 1970 Chevelle SS kits and I'll be horn swaggled if there isn't that many. The AMT one is awful with the molded in driveline, this Monogram one looks to be the best one out there. Which is sad really considering it's one of the TOP 5 all time Muscle cars period.

This is a grossly overlooked car is plastic. How many Hemi Cuda's do we have? Geez.............

Unless there is someone with some beacon of hope????

Revell has a newly tooled '72 Cutlass convertible kit in the pipeline. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see them do a '68-'72 Chevelle kit from that same tooling.

At least I sure HOPE they do!

Here's hoping for both a '69 and a '70!!!!

That looks VERY nice Steve. I applied the stripes on the deck on mine and when I went to install the hood ones....... well, let's just say there were problems...

Soooo, I'm going to leave the rear deck stripes and paint the hood semi black. I HATE this kind of modeling. I doubt there are stripes for a cowl induction hood out there for this car... Are there?

The rest looks great, the paint is going to be poyfect. That Testors laquer is almost foolproof. I'm taking lisence with it since it's not a great kit, and I wasn't going to go full hog anyway. The motor is excellent, as is most of the other parts in this kit.

Steve, the alternator in that AMT kit is on the wrong side!!! Will they ever properly do this majestic car correctly?

The Baldwin Motion seem nice. I'll wager with a couple of kits combined, an accurate one COULD result. But who wishes to spend all that on it?

Back to the workbench for me.

I really think if Revell put the effort into an accurate '70 Chevelle like they did with their '69 Camaro line, they would have a HUGE hit on their hands. Think about it, a Baldwin Motion car, Stock SS version with either a 396 or 454, a street machine version and countless other variations.

If they did a 68/69 Chevelle, that would be a huge hit too. They could do a '68 which we could modify to '69 specs if we wanted without a ton of trouble. Just some thoughts...

Thanks Dave, thank all you guys for the responses. It looks like if they did retool or modify a Chevelle kit they'd have a sure thing on their hands.

I'm not sure about spending 17.00 on a new kit for hood stripes is the order of the day for me, but good looking out.

I think i'll keep it status quo and build it the way i currently am. It's fun and that's all that matters [ignoring the hood decal situation. They just curled up and tore ARGGGHHH!]

I'm just adding plug wires and finishing it.

Once again, THANKS.

I guess we'll find out soon enough. :)

Maybe it was in the plans at some point, and maybe it will be again, but considering both 1/25 scale snap and 1/24 scale glue '70 Chevelle SS kits exist in the Revell inventory, I don't see it happening.

Our friend Tim Boyd has a nice build article on the Revell Snapper in the new issue of the "other" magazine. I have that very issue in the stash, and finished up a current issue (blue) one not too long ago.
