Ok. How many dually rims are out there? I try and research but all that comes up are the ones for the ford dually and the chevy dually. I am gathering parts for a build and am trying to find out what option I have.

AMT did a snap Dodge regular cab dually, and some of the wrecker kits out there have them. There's a Revell snap 73-87 wrecker that I'm thinking of that has duallies. I don't know what's on the aftermarket.

Does anyone have any specs on them? diameter and are they simulators or rims?

The 1/32 scale semi wheels will scale out in 1/25 at about 18-20 inches. I built a 55 Chevy stepside dually and they looked perfect.

The best aftermarket dually wheels I have seen are made by AFX/N Scale resin (I think that's how they spell it?)

They are very nice renditions of Alcoa eight hole aluminum dually wheels. Very different from the 1/32 ten hole wheels found in the snap semi truck kits. The resin Alcoa's are designed to fit the Satco one ton tires and when paired together, look very nice!!!!!

The front wheels are one piece and the rear wheels are two piece (the dual wheel and a tiny center hub cover)

They may not show a picture of them but they do have them.

The AMT Snapfast Dodge dually (also sold as a promo) features nice "Dodge" style dually wheels but the rear hub (as with all the kit offerings) is incorrect. (it's too short)

The Snapfast Chevrolet dually kit has decent wheels for that era of Chevy specific dually but again, the rear hub is too short.

The Monogram (now Revell) Ford F-350 dually kit has nice looking "Ford" type dually wheels but on these, the rear hub is too long and too small in diameter.

These are the only choices you have (that I remember right now) as far as "accurate" looking dually wheels go. The wheels found in the early Revell snap dually type kits, "Captain Hook", Big Six Wheeler", the Ford dually are all the same and are poor renditions of an aluminum style wheel. The tires in those kits are hard plastic as well.

The wheels found in the Revell "Sneaky Pete" and "Midnight Cowboy" wrecker kits are the same as well. They too are poor renditions of aluminum style wheels. The tires found in these kits are hard solid vinyl.

The wheels in the old MPC Super Duallie kit are regular chrome spoke wheels with a spacer to make them into duals on the rear. The tires are soft vinyl off road type.

Brookfield Collectors Guild makes diecast 1/24 and 1/25 Chevrolet and Ford dually's with very nice wheels. The Chevy's have the regular chrome four hole Chevy style just like those on the AMT Snap Fast Chevy dually but they are a lot more accurate.

The Fords have the newer style "star" type Ford dually wheel in chrome.

Several aftermarket companies offer resin dually wheels but they are just copies of the ones found in the kits I mentioned.

Hope this helps.

Ben,

here is all I could find about afx: www.afxnscaleresin.150m.com

Since there are really no good looking rims or the rims are not the size (depth) I am looking for this is what I am thinking about doing. The project I have in mind are these rims

with

Now the rims and tires are going on a 1/24 scale project and I think I have figured out how to make these into a dually rear. I am now thinking I would need like a simulator type cover for the front and rear. That way I could hide the aluminum rims and it would still look like a correct dually. So out of the options are there any that are simulated dually rims?

The 1/32 semi wheels seem they would be too big, but I love that build ROS

There was actually a site I came across but I can't find it now. A guy made some dually resin rims just for the so real tires but it said he had his shop closed for a bit.

Hey Mike, do you have any pics of the real wheel your trying to replicate? When you say "simulators" your refering to the thin stainless or chrome stamped wheel covers that look the same as the wheel itself but are a cheaper alternative to buying the whole wheel chromed, right? Nobdy make anything like that in 1/24 or 1/25 scale.

The wheels on rollinoldschool's dually are 1/25 ten holes from the Revell (formerlly Monogram) Peterbilt 1/25 snap together kit.

Wheels from either the Monogram or AMT snap togethers are smaller than those and would probably work in those So Real tires but again are poor examples of the real thing.

I think the ones from AFX/N Scale resin are the ones your looking for. I can't get the hang of posting pics on here but can send them by email if you would like? I can also find the website for AFX/N Scale resin and forward that to you.

Hey Mike, after doing a search, the website was actually called "A/FX N Scale Resin" but apparently has been bought out by someone else?

I'm pretty sure their stuff is still being made but i'm not sure by whom?

I would make a post in the "resin" section of this forum and ask about the status of the stuff they made.

I bought my stuff from them years ago so i'm not up to date with them.

They also sold stuff on Ebay under the seller ID "tangtang2" but theres nothing listed right now.

Ben, you do have a PM.

And what I mean when I say simulator is just a rim, but I would mount it maybe in the aluminum rim like a simulator on a 1:1.

Does anyone know anything about these?

And I was reading somewhere that there is a diecast from matchbox that was labeled 1:18th but it was actually 1:24. Anyone know anything about it?

I would use those!

You've made that snap fast look great.

Do you mind telling us the sources for both the wheels and tires?

Odds are you aren't going to get a response. The post you quoted is from 10 years ago and Rollinoldskoo has not logged onto the board in 5 years.

Thanks Toner,

Asking other builders on MCM, what they used, or where they acquired something, seems to be 50/50 when I've asked.

Thanks again for your intervention.

I looked and found some wheels and tires that are close enough for me, on one of the Jada Chevy COE's

Better to see your big wheels!

A lot of times a trip down the toy aisle at a Wal Mart or Target will yield some nice wheels. If you have an Ollie's Outlet near you they get some nice toys in that are cheap and can provide some wheels/tires.
