crappiefisher Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Does anybody know if one was made? Or how to make one? I know its a long shot but i want to build one. Thanks, Christian.
crispy Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Nothing that I know of. You could purchase a Revell Grand Prix kit for the engine and utilize a Chrysler LHS or similar car from a promo. Lots of work and time will be involved, but if you want it bad enough those two items should help. I'm sure someone will chime in with something more useful. These two were just off the top of my head. Chris
Rob Hall Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 (edited) I think a closer match would be a Fujimi Infiniti J30 kit. i think the shape & size are more comparable to a bonneville than most other cars. I did a quick search & found none @ the usual suspects (ebay, HLJ, HWJapan) but I have found them @ toy shows / model car contests for as little as $10. About the only resembalance from the J30 to any Bonneville I see are 4drs and 4 wheels. Their were 3 generations of FWD Bonnevilles--- '87-91, '92-99, '00-05. The only thing remotely similar in scale is the Brookfield Olds Aurora promo--would have a similar chassis to the later generations. But totally different body and interior. Alas, the Bonneville is just one of the many cars from the last couple decades never kitted and would require a lot of scratchbuilding to make a decent replica of, I'm afraid. Rob Hall Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Would it be possible that there was a promo of it? I have a '90's Beretta and a '91 Geo Storm. Surely if the Geo was done up as a promo, the Bonneville should have been done also. That don't always mean anything, but it would be worth a shot. I would start keeping an eye on the promos at ebay. You never know what may pop up. Nope. IIRC, the only '90s FWD GM promos besides the Beretta and Storm were the '96 or so Monte Carlo and Aurora from Brookfield Collectors Guild. Revell had an '89-91 or so Grand Prix kit, and there was an unbranded '88 or '89 Regal promo. Nothing like the Bonneville.

Don't forget the Olds Intrigue promo by AMT, molded in black or (rare) white. No Bonneville models though. I can't imagine much market for one...and seems the Regal, Intrigue, Aurora models were never stellar sellers either.

Foxer Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Well, believe it or not, I have an Infiniti J30 kit here. If it comes to it, I can get some dimensions for you and photos of the body. Unfortunately, I can't spare the kit as I stole all the PE logos (I know these wouldn't be needed) for the G35 I'm doing and am planning on sawing off the rear end to mount on the back of another "over-done" custom ... you'll never guess what it is! Just ask if you'd like to see any of this.
Rob Hall Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 (edited) Perhaps another look in in order then: As you can see, they are not as dissimilar as you once thought. I think the hardest Part would be going from RWD J30 to the FWD Bonne. perhaps the aformentioned Brookfield Promos could be substituted for the chassis.... then there is the interior. Basically, it all boils down to how bad do you want it? I still don't see much resembalance...the Bonneville ('92-99 pictured) is considerably larger, and FWD. Also, the original poster was asking about a 1990, and that generation ('87-91) was very square w/ a sloping nose and high decklid.. Edited October 15, 2009 by Rob Hall
crappiefisher Posted October 15, 2009 Author Posted October 15, 2009 Thanks guys. I really appreciate the help. The reason why i want to build one is because my dad really likes bonnevilles and i do to. We have 2 of them a 1990 and a 95. And does anybody have a grand prix model of the same era that they would sell to me? if so just PM me or send an email at: christianh_95@yahoo.com Thanks for all the help.

Wish I could help Christian, but as most folks now I build late 60's- early 70's muscle cars and trucks of all sizes and years, one question, did my package ever show? Are you happy with it, let me know if you need any parts. Nick
