Ben Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Hello all! I am working on an interior that needs to have black carpet but I only have tan and gray flocking. I was wondering if anyone has ever painted over flocking to change the color? I was thinking of spraying the floor flat black, letting it cure, then spraying some 3M adhesive, sift the flocking on and after it's dry, shoot another coat of flat black over it. Will this work? Thanks for your help!
MrObsessive Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Ben, flocking can be painted over but very carefully! you don't want the pressure so high that it blows the flocking off the surface, or brush paint it 'til it's nothing more than clumpy balls on your interior. Since you're painting it black there should be no issue of color bleed through or whatnot. Here's a pic of an '05 'Vette interior I did a while back where I had to paint over the flocking due to some color mismatch................ HTH!
Ben Posted November 1, 2009 Author Posted November 1, 2009 Wow, that interior looks really nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Bill!
Harry P. Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Another alternative, even easier, is to use textured, or "faux fabric" spray paint. I don't know what colors it comes in, but it doesn't matter, because you can overspray any color you want on top of it.
Ben Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 Hey guys, i've seen the posts regarding the embossing powder and faux fabric spray and i'll try them sometime but I was hoping to use this stuff that I already have on hand. It's been sittin here for years! LOL Thanks for the help!
