Reuhkapelti Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 1973-77 El caminos are not available as models in this 1:25 scale, so I made one of my own. I've had two 1:1 -73 Elkys so it's a must. I started with this -76 Chevelle Nascar body. It had big wheel openings and a different front end, but that didn't stop me! The engine bay didn't get much of my energy, 409 with minimum detailing is enough, coz the hood is always shut.
David@MinidreamsInc. Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Good idea and nice build ! Never thought of using this kit to build an elco !
Nick Winter Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 Good idea and nice build ! Never thought of using this kit to build an elco ! That's a good idea, here's a '75 that I'm working on for my uncle Bill
Jordan White Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 That's awesome! Now you should make one like Earl's in My Name is Earl.
dencon Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 WOW!!! Very good job. I am gonna have to try that one.
torinobradley Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 Man, this one hit home! My first car was a '75 Camino. Crashed it and put the motor in a Vega. Later, I got a '74 ElCo and put a '76 Laguna nose on it along with swivel buckets, L-88 hoodscoop and those big, bad turbofins with superwide tires. Those ElCos had room for 50s in the back! It just looked perfect. I have long thought of doing a conversion considering there are different Chevelle stock car kits. I realized it would take a lot of work but this thread is inspiring. I can't tell by the photos but it looks like you used the correct dashboard. The Caminos had Monte Carlo dashboards. How's that for some trivia?

I can't tell by the photos but it looks like you used the correct dashboard. The Caminos had Monte Carlo dashboards. How's that for some trivia? I feel your pain- I had a '75 El Co in high school! Broke down at least six times a month, caught fire no less than three times, and had the classic Michigan 'see-through floorboards'! I think that car pretty much cemented my status as a Ford guy! I scrapped it three years ago- the engine is in my buddy's C20 truck, and the trans went into my cousin's SBC-powered IH Scout. The body (from what I'm told) was turned into a dirt-track car before it finally got sent to China crushed into a cube the size of a dryer. I really like this conversion- I'd often thought of building a model of my '75 when I still had it. Maybe in it's natural habitat... by the side of the road, with the hood open and the hazards flashing. Trouble was, first of all there was no kit of it, and I have no idea how to replicate steam in 1/25 scale! In high school, I was not aware of the '73-'77 stock car kits, so that thought never would've even occured to me! Oh, yeah- when I graduated, I did not buy a yearbook. I just had my classmates sign the Elky with permanent markers! Yeah, I had fun with that pile!
