Foxer Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 The title pretty much says it. Those old fuel connectors are what I'm specifically looking to do. The brass paint I have, Model Masters and Floquil, to be exact, have large "chunks" and this is mot pretty. Other brass paints I've used are the same and very unwelcome. I need some brass paint that is smooth and even shiny to some extent. Let the games begin!
Chillyb1 Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 (edited) Have you tried Model Master metalizer brass? Edited November 10, 2009 by Chillyb1
Harry P. Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 I use Testors "Brass" in the small square glass bottle for painting brass fittings.
ismaelg Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 I have used plain Testors gold for small details. I haven't tried it but maybe mix gold with a hint of black? or maybe dark brown?
MikeMc Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Have you tried Model Master metalizer brass? That is my choice....
Foxer Posted November 9, 2009 Author Posted November 9, 2009 (edited) Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Curtis and Mike, especially for recommending Metalizer Brass. I had just become aware they make a Brass paint and Mike's photo really shows this looks like just what I'm after ... the color and smoothness look perfect. Ismael .. interesting take with using a dark color. I've mixed silver and gold, but never occurred to me of using something dark. Now I'm wondering what that might do to metalizer.. I don't even know what solvent base that is. I'm not sure I've tried regular old Testors Brass, Harry ... guess I figured Model Master would be their better Brass paint, but I'm really disappointed in it. Edited November 9, 2009 by Foxer
MikeMc Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Mike..I find that mixing metalizers can be a lot of fun. As they are lacquers they mix well and if not over thinned spray fantastic! I find that a couple of drops of magnesium, or alum plate work well...just play around! On this one it was the blower that was a brass mix..I did the carbs with the interior color for contrast
Foxer Posted November 11, 2009 Author Posted November 11, 2009 Defiantly some nice looking metal there. I love Metalizer paint .. goes on so smooth and looks very realistic. Unfortunately, none of the hobby shops I visit carried the brass or this would have been a moot question. But, I'm glad it got asked!
