Kostas Parchas Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Ryan, It is very cool so far. Keep the good work coming. Kostas.
RyanSilva Posted November 24, 2009 Author Posted November 24, 2009 (edited) Thank's guys No scratch work at the moment, But I did modify the kit wheels to make them look better. I sanded down the backside of the wheel till it was flush with the mounting hole molded into the back of the wheel, I made a peg on my dremel to insert into it, to get me a pretty true setup to trim down the wheel., I took a louisville wheel, and took out the center, and used the sleeve for the new 5 spoke wheel. I flipped over one of those amt trim rings and glued it over the sleeve. Bought some resin bolt heads from Ma's Resin and drilled out and sanded the old ones, added the ones on the flange that bolt's to the brakes...and here we have it. Yes I could have bought these...but I really like making and casting my own when I can.....I desperately need a lathe. Edited November 24, 2009 by RyanSilva
RyanSilva Posted November 25, 2009 Author Posted November 25, 2009 Finished my casts of the rear suspension and transfer case,, along with the wheels too. Fit like a glove! Now I can paint something..like these wheels.
RyanSilva Posted November 26, 2009 Author Posted November 26, 2009 At first they were red, but I painted over it with the teal. Started with a few shades of browns and a charcoal black. One reason I love using sponges and not brushes is for the texture you can get from multiple layers of paint. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
BigBlockLyle Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Ryan, this truck is looking great. Are you going to have some rear facing spotlights for spreading at night?
locoengr Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 and I am just "giddy" when I glue the two halves of an engine block together and they match . Your talents are definetly in the top 2-3 I've ever seen. Amazing. You made my day, honestly!
Old Albion Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Ryan, The weathering detail on the wheels is superb. If you had taken the photo outside in the natural daylight I would have thought they were the real thing. Wow! Amazing! Dave
locoengr Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Any updates Ryan? I really need my "fix" as I am awed by this build. TIA!
Foxer Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Those wheels are defiantly from Massachusetts! Great job on the weathering, Ryan .. very realistic. and bah ... 1st snow here in the Berkshires today, but pretty mild this season since it's Dec 1st already!
RyanSilva Posted December 1, 2009 Author Posted December 1, 2009 I'll have an update in a few hours ..I got a little...sidetracked on the weekend..hehe Snow!? I cant wait till it hits here, first thing I'm doing is walking downtown with my camera to catch the most of snow over downtown
Casey429 Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Top notch weathering there Ryan. Those look just like the wheels on the old storage trailer over at my pap's garage, other than the fact they have black paint flaking off instead of blue.
disabled modeler Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 way cool snow plow !!!! cant wait to see more of it , ive thought about building a 4x4 fwd type plow truck but never got around to it yet....seeing yours makes me want to build it even more.....sweet!.....mark
Chuck Most Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Ryan- I just added a few pics to my Fotki page you may be interested in: http://public.fotki.com/ChuckMost/Ford-C-Series It's just a few shots I took of a badly rusted late '50's C-Cab.
RyanSilva Posted December 2, 2009 Author Posted December 2, 2009 Wow thanks Chuck! Even has the budd 6 holes on it that I cast..sweet! The next one will be a retired tractor..so this comes in handy, thanks!
Chuck Most Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 Wow thanks Chuck! Even has the budd 6 holes on it that I cast..sweet! The next one will be a retired tractor..so this comes in handy, thanks! No problemo! In fact, I'm going to have to order a set of your six hole Budds one of these days- I'm thinking of doing a model of that same truck in the photos.
RyanSilva Posted December 3, 2009 Author Posted December 3, 2009 There currently discontinued, because Ben here on the forums is re-mastering them, I'll keep you informed when they are ready to go
RyanSilva Posted December 5, 2009 Author Posted December 5, 2009 The project isnt dead Just been a little busy casting and making some molds lately. I did weather the wheels a little more, some of the crust on the front wheels I will remove, just a little. I broke out some of my real rust powder to dust over them. Everything else is paint. My bolts came today from tichy train group, so now the project can progress further Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
