hoopty388 Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 wow those are nice bits, i bet Dr cranky will be proud that's nothing, see those baggies back there? that's the rest of my bits. I told you guys in a previous post i got a bunch of them.
ajulia Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 got my model in the mail today and went through my bits. this is my start. going to make it a carrier/long range fighter. going to put shelves for food in ext. cab and build sides and a tarp in the back for water/ weapons etc. the trailer will have a catapult or air cannon or ?. it will have armor but is made to stay back from the hard contact. It is more for flinging large heavy objects (like pianos)into crowds, and for storage of rations and weapons. Yikes talk bout a armoury on wheels! The build ups are coming along great! keep on wit the keepin on guys!! way cool
hoopty388 Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 that's just the guns for this truck. lol. the storage area witll have around 20 or 30 guns and swords. and there is quite a few grenades. lol
hoopty388 Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 got alot of work done but the kids decided to use my camera as a soccer ball so no pics. got a friend that's gonna sell me one cheap, hope to get over there tommorrow.
hoopty388 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 (edited) I got a camera but not familiar with it so pics are a little fuzzy. going to post them anyway. not sure how to post pic straight up so here is links: http://images109.fotki.com/v146/photos/2/1752132/9550671/02280003-vi.jpg first of I am modifying a 1/20 scale sonamo front end because it is 4 wheel drive. scale is close because one is a mini and the other is full size. not perfect but O K for this kinda build. http://images38.fotki.com/v231/photos/2/1752132/9550671/03020012-vi.jpg here is another frame pic and the modified tub. going to pu fire- walls and center bump straight to frame ass. since I am not using the original interior. http://images59.fotki.com/v111/photos/2/1752132/9550671/03020010-vi.jpg http://images54.fotki.com/v1613/photos/2/1752132/9550671/03020011-vi.jpg these are the cab pics hard to make out what is going on here but trying a weld technique. may work, may not. we'll see. all the re-inforced doors ae attached as well as pass. side gun. this is going to be a one passenger truck but figured out there would be out of the way but still useful. going pretty good so far, looking for wheels and tires on e-bay, and need to get to H.S. for styrene to make bed. but still got plenty of work to do before stale mate. let me know any questions, or comments. and I will try to get some daylight photos tomm. jedimastergary Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 well I was cleaning up here where I have been staying and found a old plastic toy car and was told to trash it so I brought it in and forgot about it until recently while cleaning and i was on here and saw the post again and said ok that is what i can do. So far i have cut open the hood, trunk and front for radiator painted it turquoise with a red fender just need to choose a motor may rob my 1953 vett. it has some tires from a toy truck on military style wheels in the back and slicks in the front. I plan on doing some custom interior if it works out or just making a top wich ever is easier. need to scratch up some junk for weapons should be ton around got a lot of coffee straws so there are a few weapons. if i can get chance and weather is nice will take pics and post them of where it is at currently and i am open to sugestions for build with no money. Like what to use for weapons and interior.
Clay Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 (edited) Ok guys got my 99 Silverado coming along. Modified USA 1 Monster truck suspension cut off wheel stems and drilled a small hole on both sides. Had to do a little repair on this one Good leaf spring, bad mounting bracket. Bad leaf spring, good mounting bracket. Wheels and tires from Dukes Monster truck Question, tires suppose to be mounted tread arrow point forward or backward? Had to cut the tank and cross members out, no worries, more will be added. And a quick mock up I have the front axle mounted, need to draw up some mounting points for the rear. Got some heavy duty weaponry going on this thing. Edited March 27, 2011 by Clay
Ryan S. Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Question, tires suppose to be mounted tread arrow point forward or backward? Looking good Clay. I've always seen the tires arrowed forward on the real trucks.
jedimastergary Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 looks good so far wish i had better stuff to work with than junk i am finding around me if i could get into my sorage i have a ton of parts but it is over 100 miles away. hoped to get pics of the toy car I am working on but been raining last few days and not much done to it still trying to work on it even though i do not have money. just using what i have to try and build it may search one more place to try and find parts for my build if not will go with straws for weapons and keep the tires it has on it.
Clay Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 You can always build it with what you got now, then pick up some things later on and then rebuild it.
jedimastergary Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 That is what I think I will do have enough coffee straws to make a gatling gun or some misle launcher tubes on the side So far I have the thing I have done are cut the hood open cut the trunk open Painted it tuquoise with a red fender(Going for the scrap yard find idea) Added some truck wheels on the back that look military and paited them custom mix green opened hole for motor and radiator Still need to make weapons possibly a frame find tires and wheels I like got my eye on a broken hotweels sized monster truck
jedimastergary Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Ok got a little work done and found my Camera cord so I can upload pics of my latest project it started as a plastic toy car I found in a junk pile and has slowly progressed into a post apocalyptic car. In rmembrence of our 151/2 year old cat Tuffy who passed away today i am going to call it Tuff 1 scout/ patrol car. I scratch built the roof from a plastic sandwich box and opened the hood and trunk and found some rear tires and wheels from a toy truck Anyon know a good place to find photos of futuristic engines maybe indusrtial type i have a ton of old electonics parts I scraped up out of the junk pile to use. Funny this car is being built just like the real ones would from what ever can be found around. Still not sure on weapons have one set most likely will end up on car and thinking of another.
hoopty388 Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 actually got a fair amount done on mine but keep forgeting to take pics in the day light. working on the bed next. thought I would put this out there: I have tons of warhammer guns and bits. Not super keen on getting rid of them, but I would come off some for things I need. what do I need? oil drums, basic diorama stuff( think mobile garage or stockpile), ammo boxes from helicopter or tank model. looking for supplies that would be in a stockpile. also, I did a post asking how to make boxes but I think making them is out of my skill level. if anyone could print out the sheets for me I could put them together. I'm thinking boxes that look like they ravaged a military surplus store. plain brown box with "toilet paper" or "chicken parmesian MRE" ect, stenciled on the side. could also use just stencils and make my own boxes. anyone know how to make stencils? and need some bits?
jedimastergary Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 I put the car aside after removing the roof to make one that I like the one on it was to thin and cracked when i tried to cut some execce plastic from the inside of it. Now I am working on a El Camino based one so far i have found some cheap hot wheel sized monster truck tires for it, painted it to look rusty and did my first damage to it never did anything like dents before I made one behind the door that looks like it hit a metal pole, dented the rear fender, dented tha A pillar, dented the left front fender and removed a piece and dented the rear lower part of the bed, and made a dent to the left front corner of the hood. Might do a few more dents want it to look like it had been in a wreck before they found it. Also thinking of scraping the tailgate and using wood strips for one to make it look like it was missing when the driver found the El camino and not going to use grill or bumpers will scratch build some from either drinking straws or round tube i have around. will get pics if weather is good tomorrow now that I look the dents might be to much is there really to much damage for one of these post apocalyptic vehicles.
hoopty388 Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 now that I look the dents might be to much is there really to much damage for one of these post apocalyptic vehicles. don't think you could do too much damage, some cars just see rougher battles than others. maybe you got trapped in a bad situation and tried to ram your way out. maybe one of those "trapped in a shopping mall with zombies" meets the mall chase scene from "blues brothers" lol
jedimastergary Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 (edited) Athe dark spot on the front of the drivers side fender is one of the dents i had to cover it back up after the watercolor mixture i used for rust chipped and burned while heating the dents. thedent i am not sure about is behind the passengers door where the roof meets the bed. I think from what it looks like I may have added a few more dents to it since I took pics. I broke the lower half of the drivers fender off to make more damage. I have a blured interior shot and close ups of the dents when i get time and good weather I will take some better pics of the interior. the black tub on the axle is just there for now to cover the metal axles that are bent. It fits the tires so I used it. may leave it and scratch build my own axles. Not sure if it will stay 2 wheel drive or be a 4X4 later on using what I have for now. want to get weapons to add to it have some stuff to stow in the bed. See what you think of the damage is it to much or could I maybe do a bit more want to dent the bed floor like something got dropped in it. The Blue in the pics is the interior i was painting it blue when build was more street machine. Need to dull it down more I see used muddy color on it. Edited May 5, 2011 by jedimastergary
jedimastergary Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Did a little work today dented the right front fender, added a motor and transmission sized dent to the bed floor added a second dent to the right rear of the bed. Bent the hood a bit more and added a couple of small holes for small caliber bullet look. I am trying to to decide if I want to use the tailgate or build one out of some wood strips also thinking of building either a covered wagon style bed cover or some kind of wood bed deal like racks or a hommade canopy where so I can hang all kinds of junk on the sides. Kind of a nomad type vehicle is what i am thinking. any suggestions? dulled interior today so i waited to get pics until it is dry but it got dark before paint dried so maybe tomorrow. and might also take some of the new damage
Jantrix Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Hi Gary, I've been checking out the work and I like what you're doing. Also I've some questions. How are you painting these models? Brush paints or spray can? It seems very thick and unrealistic. You mentioned that the paint is burning when you heat it to make dents. To avoid damage like this, do all distressing of the body before paint. It avoids that nasty scorch and is safer for you. Most any damage effect can be made to look realistic using paint effects, like the scorched paint on this Mustang. When you are doing a model like a post apoc vehicle there is so much scratchbuilding and modification that painting has to be done much later in the build than a normal build. This avoids having new equipment / armor added later ruining old paint work, or being made more difficult because it's already painted. As you can see, I've a bit of experience in this genre. I've learned from a lot of excellent builders. If I can help you out, let me know.
jedimastergary Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 My paint is some old water colors I found outside and I did not get enough water mixed in when I painted it I thought I was done when I painted it that is why i painted it. and as for the burn I smelled the paint powder and think the paints may have been exposed to gas is why they are burning. as for how I am painting it i either use a old cotton swab or a small stick and put it on then spread it out I wish that i had my tool kit so I could do better work. Missing xacto knie set, hobby saws, rotary tool, paint brushes, files, etc. using a pocet knife and lighter to do all my work. I think that I am going to just build this one as a junker and do anoter one better as I have got a few ideas after I did this one want to do more of a traveling salesman type vehicle with a hommade wood box or racks on the back covered in all kinds of junk. Ths is just to help pass time until I find work and can go get all my kits out of storage and do some real builds again and no big loss on this kit I got it for $3.99 at a thrift store. I added a few more dents to help it look more junk yard find. as soon as I get glue I will move on to putting it together.

Dr. Cranky Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Those are INDEED some great bits. Yes, WARHAMMER 40K and Bionicles make great sources for extra cool parts . . . if you don't believe me, check this one out . . . And oldie, sure, but possibly one of Doctor Cranky's favorite built models . . .
jedimastergary Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Well I went to far with the damage and the El Camino body is now a bunch of parts so I am working on a plan to use what is left and make a diffrent idea for it just waiting to get the right stuff to rebuild the body then I will see how it goes. Gives me time to scrounge up all kinds of junk to use on it.
Dr. Cranky Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 Here's more inspiration for you builders still working on yours . . . .enjoy.
