i need whoever it was who posted the photo of the lincoln V12 flathead powered rod to please post a couple more pics of the motor please!

i bought one for a project our club is doing for the NNL west in a month or so and need to see better how everything goes. especially the distributor/magneto setup on the front of the motor and specifically where a couple of pieces should go, like what appears to be an oil breather, what appears to be a fuel distribution block and in particular the left side of the motor.

i would appreciate it very much. the photo that came with the kit only shows the right side and there are some details i cannot figure out.

many thanks in advance!

ah yes thank you very much.

i still need a clear shot of the distributor and also a normally aspirated example...the resin one is 3 2s.

i believe it might have been lyle willits who posted the original photo. could you please repost that or post a link to it cause i cant find it anymore...or better yet post some more pics of your buildup?

many thanks again

All Lincoln Zephyr V12's have their distributors of the same design as pre-48 Ford flathead distributors, look very much the same, and in the same place, on the front of the block, just above the cam gear.

...maybe these will help with the distributor, but if you look at the pics I posted earlier you can see most of it is shrouded and the wires routed through tubes...

...this is more like the V-12 set-up just add the extra wires...

...and here's a stock V-12 (yes it has a late model alternator) that may be of help too - these all came from my Engine Albums.

Not the greatest pics ever, but here's the local one I saw at a show on Labor Day weekend this year; I've seen it probably 4 or 5 times since, but it's always moving too fast for pics. 8)

ah yes thank you very much, the red v8 above especially was a great help as i can see how the shrouding goes and why you cannot really see the distributor with the fan belts etc in place. i think i might extrapolate a 12 cyl distributor from what i see there.

one more question, since what im building the motor for what would be a drag car: would a magneto be appropriate? and if so would it be appropriate to have it stick up at about a 20 degree angle from vertical, leaning to the left as you look at the *front* of the motor? or would it have to stick straight out and run horizontal to the ground? i dont think we will have room for that latter option but if i could just fab a magneto it would be easier i think...

many thanks for all the help again. i think when i finish the first of these motors i bought i will go back and do another for a rat rod thing.

hey thanks for the link lyle, that motor and the car its in is a real inspiration. i just hope the one i do even approaches that one in overall looks and level of detail.

im glad you explained the dual distributor set up there because prior to that i was thinking that was a coil on each side somehow.

Kong built magneto ignition setups for the Zephyr V12, according to my 1960 Bell Auto Parts catalog. Kong's ignition was mounted horizontally, in the stock position, same as his flathead V8 units.
