drodg Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I am going to start building a 69 Jo-Han Rambler SC with the 390. The engine color is metallic blue. Does anyone have recomendation of a close match from Testors or Tamiya to match AMC metallic blue?
mrmike Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 (edited) I used Model Master Acryl Teal for mine which very close to the picture I found. http://image.automobilemag.com/f/26181191+w750+st0/1001_03_z+1969_aMC_hurst_sC_rambler+engine.jpg My SC/Rambler 390. Edited February 1, 2010 by mrmike
Monty Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I'm going to respectfully disagree with Mark on this. The two Pontiac engine colors we're most familiar with are the silver-blue and a lighter blue. Here's a side-by-side pic of each. http://www.jbp-pontiac.com/images/93080024.JPG Conversely, the AMC engines were kind of a medium blue metallic as seen here: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/81/1970_AMC_Javelin_390_V8_RamAir_engine_bay.jpg I'd say experiment with a mix of Humbrol Baltic blue and Boyd's True Blue. drodg Posted February 1, 2010 Author Posted February 1, 2010 The multiple pictures of I have seen I think the AMC blue looks more like a teal.

Maybe you should find an auto parts store that carries engine enamels and grab a can of AMC blue. You may need a special primer, as it may be "hotter" than regular enamels. Eshaver Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Sorry Mark the old A M C Blu- Green was definetly more of a wierd Teal color . I worked on enough of those Javelins, A M X's and then Matadors . I certainly couldn't recomend the Pontiac blue as it was way too silvery . If anything , mix some Testors Candy Blue with a dab of Candy Green on a white base . Even then , it wont be 100% Ed Shaver
