lowriderphil Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 The person I bought it from added the T-type hood and rear spoiler to it. It had two pumps, 4 batts, 2 switches and some 14" buick rally's with 185/75/14 whitewalls. I want to build it just like the real one, two tone dull brown and silver, charcoal colored hood and spoiler. general idea of the trunk layout. pumps were actually black, the spare was a stock sized 205/75/14 tire.
lowriderphil Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 added in trunk lip got it hinged: open closed
lowriderphil Posted February 15, 2010 Author Posted February 15, 2010 should be asleep but I got the bug to build. Found a pic (not my ride but a dead ringer) added the vinyl top and trim

Guest Mustang3.8 Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Great start. Are you using the '87 buick GN kit?
lowriderphil Posted February 16, 2010 Author Posted February 16, 2010 Looks good so far. good job an the vynil top. i had a 78 regal myself,i enjoyed it alot. thanks. I bought this ride from a guy my dad works with, had a shot engine so I put a junkyard replacement in it. I threw three rods on the way home in 2001 after watching the Ravens win the superbowl. Unfortunitly I couldn't afford to fix it. Great start. Are you using the '87 buick GN kit? using the donk kit. gonna have to rob some engine parts from the parts box to build the non turbo 3.8L V6
Jim0205 Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 For the vinyl top you are just using tape? do you have any issues with adhesion? does the tape loose it's stick after a while?
Jon Cole Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 If you really want it to look like the one in the photo, you should use a bigger tire, if not the wheel also. They look like 13" on the mock up, but much closer to stock size in the 1:1 photo. Maybe it's the angle of the pic?
lowriderphil Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 For the vinyl top you are just using tape? do you have any issues with adhesion? does the tape loose it's stick after a while? I just stuck it on to get a visual of how it will look. Once I finalize everything I will glue it down and spray it the correct color. Maybe it's the angle of the pic? This pic isn't of my car but a near dead ringer for the color and wheels, minus the different hood. Unfortunatly I don't have and pics of mine they were all 35mm and were lost in a basement flood.
lowriderphil Posted March 6, 2010 Author Posted March 6, 2010 here's the fresh spray on the regal while the tbird pics load up. color is dupli-color GM light brair
nails3825 Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Looks great! What kit is that? I once had an '80 Regal and loved it... black with grey interior, fluffy carpet 4.9 engine. It was a strong running car although I had to have a case of oil in the trunk, as it leaked something terrible. Three quarts a week, just about I'd like to build a replica of it too, it's hard to find a kit that looks simular. You're doing an awesome job so far! I'll be checking in to see how it's going

He just put the tape on for masking, as hes making it replica, where hes taped off it going to be another colour.....i think lol.

I'll be checking in to see how it's going this is the donk gn kit, I believe the 80 model was the stubby one, it's probably gonna take some scratching He just put the tape on for masking, as hes making it replica, where hes taped off it going to be another colour.....i think lol. yeah, that was just to get a rough idea of the texture. once the paint is cured out I'm gonna glue down a fresh piece of the tape, then spray it the correct maroon and maybe hit it with some powders to dull it out a bit
Deckerz Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Oh my bad...i thought you were just using it to mask off, why don't you try using thin leatherette to give it a more realistic look? You can get it at fabric stores for cheap, only problem is you can only buy it in rolls unless you just ask for cut offs they might have. just an idea but im loving that colour man, you spray it from can or airbrush?
lowriderphil Posted March 7, 2010 Author Posted March 7, 2010 I'm not going to crazy with this one. The tape will make it easier to have the edges and top peeling back like the 1:1 did
lowriderphil Posted March 7, 2010 Author Posted March 7, 2010 sprayed the hood and trunk charcoal. now the body is done, just needs the top and foil.
lowriderphil Posted March 7, 2010 Author Posted March 7, 2010 one last update tonight as off to foil. I don't have much in the parts box in the area of 1/25 scale 3.8L engine parts so I made do with an air cleaner and a cut down intake from an old amt 64 impala.
