eagle2159 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 hello to all I'm French and I am amazed by the designs that I can see some models are strikingly realistic !!!!!! For my part I made 2 trucks and 3 trailers.(to see pictures) Soon I'll make 2 flat trailers, my question is, how to get a wood floor that is as realistic !!!!!! Thank you for your help.
JamesW Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Popcicle sticks? Balsa wood? All you would have to do is stain it.
Turbo590 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 You can't get anymore realistic than using real wood...check this out http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/?page_id=3&category=4&product_id=206'>http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/?page_id=3&category=4&product_id=206 This is available from Sourkraut Model Truck Parts, (http://sourkrautsmodeltrucks.com/) Here is a just completed oil float trailer using the oak wood..and then an "age" it product from MicroMark. Good Luck in your quest..... Kurt
eagle2159 Posted March 5, 2010 Author Posted March 5, 2010 thank you for your help but what is the technique for attaching wood ????? is glued over the original shelf plastic or something !!!!!! an extra layer seems impossible, the metal rails (red plastic on the photo) would not level. It would require more detail on the technical thank you in advance
SpreadAxle Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 The trailer you see in the pic is scrtachbuilt, so he wouldn't have laid the wood on top of anything but the frame he built. . However, if you plan to do this with the AMT Fruehauf flatbed, my first suggestion is to cut away the "wood" in the deck. Install crossmembers across the deck. These are the ribs on the bottom of the deck piece in the kit. Then you can replace it with the real wood by laying the wood on the crossmembers. Someone can probably explain it better than I can, but that's the basic idea. As to the models you posted in the pix, nice work.
