That's NOT a stupid question! There are no stupid questions... only stupid bosses. :(

Yes I use Dupli Primer/Sealer on plastic, works fine. I use it as the "base" primer, adding other primers as needed over it.

Porky , Primer and Primer sealant are two different products . Lets start with what a primer actually does er don't . Primer will show flaws and places where the surface is flawed . A good primer will also allow the paint something to adhere to. Sure , sanding is good , always sand before ya prime . Now sealers are used in cases where a " Top - Coat " may be questionable . To site an example , the last car I did was a Ford Customline 56 Model for a customer . He didn't want to strip the paint . I was reluctant but I agreed to do a repaint on the car . I sanded the paint and as a result numerous coats were revealed from 1956 too.

On doing the Body work , I used Por -15 a rust neutralizer paint to combat some rust that was forming . Now I know you dont need this on plastic but it sure works good on metal ! Anyway , after I got the car in my favorite N A P A primer , i then used a sealer to nutralize any effects of the undercoats or of the por -15 on the new enamel paint . The secret to using a sealer is simple . On appliling this product , shoot a top coat about 30 minutes after you shoot the sealer . This will make you're adhesion a little better . However , on a plastic model , I don't think a sealer is nessesary . unles you plan on using several kinds of paint , ie laquers and enamels .

look , go back to Advance or whereever ya got the paint and simply exchange it for a Sandable primer . Problem solved , next victim ! Ed Shaver

I use the sealer AFTER my bodywork is finished then I seal it. The label on the sealer says to use it over a primer base.

I use the Duplicolor primer sealer all the time and I like it.

If I made some mods on the body with body filler, I first use a sandable primer, then after that primer is sanded and the body is ready to paint, I seal it with the primer sealer, wait 30 minutes and then paint right over it.

If no mods have been done (no body filler used), I just sand the mold lines and correct imperfections on the body using 600 grit sandpaper, then scuff the entire body using a gray scothbrite, then apply the primer sealer right on the plastic body, wait 30 minutes and paint right over it.

I've had no adhesion problems or any other problems with using this primer sealer right on the plastic using this method.

I don't like this stuff as a primer because in my experience it seems hotter than any primer. It does seem good as a sealer over primer as it is intended to be used.

Hey Guys, Thanks for al the input. Seeing as how I trashed the paper work on the sales transaction. I guess I will have a few cans of the stuff on the shelf. :P

Ed,

Can the sealer be used when painting a body cast in red, orange or yellow to keep it from bleeding through a white or light color final coat?
