I hope this is the right place for this, if not, I apologize, and please help me to put it in the correct place.

Ok, I have a question. I am in the process of building the 55 Nomad as a gasser. As I am planning and test fitting, I noticed that most reference pics do not have the front wheel wells. So, my question is, what is the best way to get rid of them for this build? I noticed that the battery and radiator uses the wheel wells to fit properly, so getting rid of them completely may not be an option.

I mostly build stock and this is a new endeavor for me, so all help is greatly appreciated

Thanks,

What i would do is cut the fender wells out on the transition into the fender top where the hood sits and start there.

Being a gasser i would put the battery in the trunk (weight transfer you know! LOL) and then you would just have to make a brace for the rad.If you have any scrap plastic (ya right!) you can make a small shelf that rests on the frame rails.

Hope this helps! :D

Yah, I had a 55 chubby D/Gas street racer back in '67. No front bumper, nor brackets. Inner wheel wells up front are unbolted from tha inner lip of tha fenders, which leaves no edge that 90s out as part of fender well (hope yur imagination works). Battery in trunk on left rear, ground to frame, hot lead thru tha passenger cabin, passenger side of driveshaft tunnel to starter solenoid. Yu shuld only have tha throttle bellcrank and yur brake master cylinder ( stock, not power assisted) mounted to yur firewall ( vacumm assist wastes horsepower). Strip tha web bracing out of tha hood. Yu can still use tha standard radiator support, it detaches from tha fender wells.

Grille and turn signals, depends on whether yurs is street driven or only strip driven. I broke out every other grille bar, weight savings, just junk metal, kept tha turn signals ( street driven) also ran 55 station wagon coil springs up front, git a 1 inch rise from them and 90/10 Monroe shocks, 50/50 out back. Also sculpture cut tha door panels, weight savings, just enuff metal for tha window crank to work.

Out back yu'd need ladder bars for lift for a dragster, traction bars for a streeter....I had a street driven car with homebuilt lift bars to mid car...hit a bump and broke tha crossmember that supported tha fronts o' tha ladder bars...car jumped up 2-3 ft, came crashing down and slid offn tha highway......dragging those beoootiful lift bars into junk, cut some holes into tha floor boards too.

keep tha rear bumper. Hope this helps ya paul.

Looking at the kit, I would cut the fender wells out at the firewall and forward leaving the lip for the hood, then back down just behind the radiator, where it attaches to the fenderwells. This will leave the splash pan to tie the fenders together at the front. If you want to cut the front bumper off, cut the bumper appron at the line that disects the park lights but leave the splash pan where it backs the grill. The grill will then hide it when complete and still tie the fenders together. The hood latch attaches to the grill so it is logical to leave the grill intact.

Questions in this index are just fine, they probably get the most exposure here. :D
