Do you remember your first plastic model kit? Mine was a simple model of a Voodoo, three parts; fuselage, wings and tailplane; cost was two box-tops from Blue Bonnet margarine. Must have been around 1953/54. Don't remember what my first car model was but was probably one of the AMT heavy plastic kits; wire axles and one piece under-body and body and extra add-ons, louvres and such, pretty basic and I must have built tons of them (I think each kit weighed about a pound!).

my very first model was when i was 6 years old, it was a lamborghini countach, it was black with blue/purple stickers, and the big spoiler, it was a sanp-together kit, i don't remember who made it, but yeah, that was my first kit i ever built.

I started my foray into the plastic world with an Airfix Ariel Arrow. My first car kit was a Monogram Mercedes 540K.

I have no idea!

I built my first model over 40 years ago and have built hundreds since. No way I could possibly remember which one was the first ever.

First one was this back in October 1978.................

I no longer have the model------I gave it away to a cousin years ago who ended up using it for firecracker fodder. <_< I would eventually build another one back in 2002..........but you guys all know the history of that one! :)

That brought back a memory, I remember building their little MG, seems I had the flu and it was given to me to keep me busy, probably five or six years old.

(maybe; I'll have to check the history to see when that kit came out, may have been later!)

My first model was a tiny (+/- 4") Stuka when I was about 6. If you've ever seen the Calvin & Hobbes strip where he tries to build an F4 Phantom, that was pretty much my experience as well.

As far as cars go, my first kit was Revell's '56 Chevy. Yup, the one with opening doors, hood and trunk. Calling it "fiddly" is like saying the ocean is damp. I'm surprised I even tried other car kits after that little disaster.

You know what we all should do?

We should take the first (car?) kit we ever built, and build it exactly how we inteded it to look back then - but with the skills we have today.

Now THIS would be a funny community buildoff, nay?

This isn't the exact model, but the first kit I ever built was this little Monogram Fox Body 'Stang...

I have no idea what ever happened to the original, but I picked this one up built up about a year ago for a buck.

I would have never remembered my first kit, but have been reading Thomas Graham's book on Revell. So, the Merchant's gift set was it... issued in 1956 with a tugboat, tanker and freighter. I was 10 and it was a Christmas present. My Dad build the tanker as I did the other two. His paint was beautiful and I tried my hardest to match it. Not that close, but I was proud of mine none the less. I was hooked and there was no turning back ... especially when AMT issued their first custom kits 2 years later and was NO more planes or ships for me!

AMT's original 1970 Ford Police Interceptor. Used every part in the kit, the better part of a tube of glue, and not a lick of paint - ugly as original sin, but I loved it. When Hobby Heaven arranged for the reissue in the nineties, I bought a CASE of 'em!!! :):lol:
