David@MinidreamsInc. Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Please forgive me ! I don't build donks and this was the only car that these wheels looked good on !
cruz Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Not to criticize you or your work my friend but, I feel really sad seeing such a beautiful model being "raped" and "insulted" in this manner. You need to apologize to all of us in the forum for the next, ummmmmm? 100 years???
David@MinidreamsInc. Posted May 29, 2010 Author Posted May 29, 2010 LOL! Cruz i done made my pled for forgiviness in my post LOL!
Captain Obvious Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Beautiful paint, not diggin' the wheels however... Do you have any more stock-looking wheels you could mock it up with? Just out of curiosity...
Harry P. Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Get rid of those cartoon goofy wheels and you'd have a beautiful model...
highway Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 LOL! Cruz i done made my pled for forgiviness in my post LOL! OUCH!! Looks like a tough crowd here!! I have to agree, though, I have never liked the "donk" look, I think the "N" should be changed to an "R". 22 and 24 inch wheels only belong on one thing, a TRACTOR TRAILER!!!!
randx0 Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 I haven't seen a nicer looking donk. great paint job . I love the colors .as far as the wheels go, again, great look for a donk . I commend you for finishing a model and posting pictures of it ,which is more than I've done in awhile . I would love to see more .
RodneyBad Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 I like the wheels and a Excellent paint job too. Excellent work..
Nick Notarangelo Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 I want one of those kits with out the wheels.I will say if they wernt so big they do look good on it
cazxr2 Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 (edited) Please forgive me ! I don't build donks and this was the only car that these wheels looked good on ! I feel ur pain I have a donks monte carlo and don't know weather to use the wheels or not. But going by the reaction I think al pass lol. Got to say love the kit, and I actually think the wheels suit it well, maybe a bit big tho. Edited May 29, 2010 by cazxr2
crazyjim Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 I'm not a fan of those wheels but I think the whole looks pretty good. Very nice paint.
PITTSBURGH412 Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 lol every post on this ride is real funny to me! ive never seen a bigger group of close minded people! i think thats whats wrong with this site, if you guys dont like it, you bash it! instead of looking at the build itself and seeing how clean it is built, you wouuld rather pick it apart i think thats what everyone fails to realize, is this hobby isnt what you build, its how you build it! who cares if you dont like the wheels, look at the build itself! you know, there is more to the hobby then just stock, hotrods, and lowrods, or led sleds, this site needs to get off its high horse, and open up its minds and build outside the box for a change................... im sorry for the rant, ill go about building what i wanna build and how i wanna build it! oh and the cutty looks real good dave, wheels an all!
PITTSBURGH412 Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 but see its none of that really! its not just this build, its alot of builds on this site that i have seen were built real clean, and either get no comments, or nasty comments so dont get it twisted, ive seen alot of bashing on this site, and i understand its a public forum, but whats up with some encuragement, instead of pretty much brain washing people to build what YOU GUYS LIKE! to sorta fit in on this site. ive posted some rides on this site, that got good comments and alot of them on other sites, but because its not the norm around here, they didnt get anything at all and like i said, im sticking to my guns on this one............... you guys need to think outside the box and think and try and build something you wouldnt build normally, that way you can get the inside look at a new culture of rides being built! OPEN UP YOUR MINDS FELLAS............... BUILD SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR A CHANGE i would love to see half of you guys build something like this, just to do it! and see what it looks like
David@MinidreamsInc. Posted May 29, 2010 Author Posted May 29, 2010 LOL! Well good morning my building buddies! I know when i grabbed this out of the bag that it was going to start something ! Thats why in my frist post the last comment i made was that I WAS SORRY FOR PUTTING A 75 CUTLASS TO THIS TYPE OF CONFLICT !LOL ! Yo Jeff thanks for the comment brother but you should know me by now ! I don't need anyone to approve what i build ! I do it cause thats the build that popped up in my head so i did it ! Thats why they call me MINIDREAMS ! I dream i build it ! I love all the comments not 1 comes off to me as bashing, they are just insights to what we like or dislike and i enjoy the responses cause i would rather hear the truth rather then being told something i just want to hear ! If no one speaks the truth how do we grow as a builder ! My goal is to take the advice from everyones comments and better my self and hopefully 1 day i can be a builder as clean as BILL ! We should strive to better our own building skills with each and every build! If you not ,then your not a hobbiest , your just wasting time and not giving plastic the love she's looking for ! Again THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES !

You pose a very good point. It's not just donks, though. I've seen comments along similar lines referring to paint color, body mods, decal applications, etc. There may be more of these "conditional" comments about donks, but chariot-sized wheels aren't the only feature singled out on this forum. To me low riders, donks and hoppers are not a part of any culture I understand. In my opinion they make about as much sense as solid gold toilet seats or diamond doorknobs, But as a car enthusiast, I can appreciate the ammount of work and affection invested in the 1:1 cars these guys build. Aesthetically, I don't think these cars will ever appeal to me. Maybe I associate these styles too closely with the rap gangstah, kopp killah culture that I find somewhat offensive. But at the last model car show-contest I was at, it seemed that there was a whole section devoted to these custom builds. I eventually found myself in a conversation with a rather nice guy who built one of them. I had questions about the how the hydraulics operated, the wiring of the batteries, drivetrain stress, etc. I admitted to him that I really did not find that style of customizatoin appealing and probably never would, but I could see that there was a lot of time and effort invested in these kits, and I could certainly identify with that. One thing about this community, if you post a picture, most members will give you their honest opinion. Most of them will even do it tactfully! If your paint is a bit rough, somebody'll tell you. If your wheels are crooked or don't all touch the ground, someboby'll mention it. If you paint a stock Model-T Ford bright electric chartreuse, there'll be a few comments about it. I value that much more than any kind of syrupy pandering where everybody does a great job regardless of whether it's true or not. If you want to be a maverick and ride the cutting edge of style, be prepared to take some heat about it, it takes courage to go against the flow. Otherwise, play it safe and do things the way others do. Voltaire: "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it."
PITTSBURGH412 Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 thank you sir, that was very well put! and i thank you for your opinion as well. now david (minidreams) knows me, and i very rarely ever speak out against anything, and i do agree on the whole criticizum, because without that, how would we improve on anything, but when its a builder like minidreams, who is well known and really doesnt apear to have much to improve on right now, i would look at it like this, i like anything as long as it is done tastefully and clean.............. and in my opinion theyre alot of rides being built and posted on this site, that just plain get ignored because its not what people want to see, instead of looking at the quality and time and effort that was put into the build. all in all, im sorry for jumping into this thread and running off at the mouth, but sometimes some things need to be said, and not left alone. with all that being said, i would still love to see some guys arpound here build outside of there own box, and do something they would never build, get out of your comfort zone and build something different already.

This is what this build was all about ! I built an item i have never done yet ! I'm a Lowrider builder if i had to label my self ! But really enjoy protouring, prostreet, minitrucks and tuners ! I may never build another model in the DONK subject but at the least i gave it a go !

Jeff, I don't think there was anyone here was doubting David's building skills or abilities, and he even apologized in his first post to everyone and stated he ususally doesn't build donk style cars. This tells me that not only did he know he was going to receive some of the "Why did you do this?" type comments, and was prepared for them! It also tells me he is not afraid to "build outside his own box", and I feel no one here is afarid to do that as well. I mostly build heavy and light commercial, that's why I made the tractor trailer comment, but I have my fair share of cars of all styles as well. My collection consists of 400+ kits, and of these, 5 to 10% of them are in your "build something different" catagory. I have everything from ships, planes, military armor and softskin, and even 4 train kits! I personally think, as probably everyone who has replied does, the build itself is excellent, the color choices complement the car very nicely, and the build is a very clean build. The wheels, just like I feel with every donk style car, real or scale, tend to draw the eye from the overall look of the car and you don't see the wonderful paint jobs because the eye catches the wheels. I know you are a lowrider, at least that is the majority of the builds I've seen you post, anyway, and should understand what I saying here. Lowriders, again both real and scale, have mostly nice candy paint jobs and nice murals, and most ride on smaller diameter wire wheels. If a lowrider were to have a donk style wheel, it again would, in my opinion, draw the eye away from the wonderful paint and murals most lowriders take pride in. I could be wrong, but these are my views and opinions, and everyones taste differs. That is just like my current project, a Ford semi truck I heavily modified with a large custom built sleeper, it may not suit everyones taste, but it is what I want it to look like. I'm happy with how it is turning out so far, and that is what matters. The same applies to David's Cutlass, it may not be what everyone thinks it should look like, but as long as he is happy with it, that is what matters most.
Tonioseven Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 I love it. I have a couple of "Donks" comin' down the pipleline myself. I'll be sure to post them elsewhere. Nice build David.
cruz Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Well, I will say it again, it is a beautiful build and the tires are just ridiculous, that is not bashing, it's saying what I think and what I personally don't like. With that said, PLEASE! PLEASE! comment negatively on my builds when I finish one and decide to post it here! You know what that is going to accomplish? A much better build from me the next time. You guys have to understand that it's in our nature to comment either negatively or positively to everything posted here. It's up to the "mature" individual to react to the comments. I absolutely love what he did with the paint and cleanliness of the build and wish I could do something that nice with a kit like that. I commend him for the job but also for understanding what a lot of us were trying to say......

My first thought on Dave's Cutlas was - Wow! where'd he get those wheels, I think they are perfect on that car - the lines of the car flow real nice and the colors are great. Ok, maybe run 22" rims instead of 24".... jeff/ CPMCC
PITTSBURGH412 Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 OK WELL I GUESS I RUFFLED some feathers oh well, thats just me, and you guys are just you i guess. me on the other hand happen to like and love alot of different styles of car, i guess i expected others to be like me, and well i guess not huh now as for my comments being ''up to the "mature" individual to react to the comments'' this was just to much lol but whatever, marcos can think what he wants, and im just goin to continue to love different styles of different builds,my comments have nothing to do with my maturity what so ever so if you ''marcos'' dont like what i have to say, then please '' mr. maturity'' dont comment or react on my behalf
bad0210 Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 i understand where your coming from jeff. but some will never. i think this build looks perfect.
kingiguana Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 I gotta admit, I'm not a"Donk" fan at all, but this one doesnt look half bad. The paint is great, I'd prefer "normal" wheels, I'm old school Cragars, Torq Thrusts, Keystones, and so on. But as donks go this is the best one I've seen, in scale, or real.
