AMT Pacemakers Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Getting ready to start on this kit, was looking for a good review of it, anyone know where to get one? I think I remember hearing something about the rear window design? Good or bad, like to here what ya'll think as well. Thanks

Thanks You said you were getting ready to start on this kit, then wanted to know where to get one, do you already have it or planning on getting one to build? If it is plannig to get one, are you looking at buying the stock 67 Fastback or the GT 350 verison, which I actually think is a GT500 that AMT mismarked? If you already have it, I can't help you much, I built one many years ago but really don't remember much on the assembly of it. If you are planning to buy it, I can help you by at least taking some pics of mine, I have both versions, and at least you can see what you would be buying first.
AMT Pacemakers Posted May 29, 2010 Author Posted May 29, 2010 "You said you were getting ready to start on this kit, then wanted to know where to get one," "Getting ready to start on this kit, was looking for a good review of it," By get one I meant a review of said kit. I have the kit. Also have the GT350 kit. Thanks

Like I said, I had it when it was first released in the mid 90s, and thought it was a nice kit, but I don't really remember much of the build to be much help.

The '68 Shelby kit is a GT500--has a 428.
highway Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 The '67 Shelby kit is a GT350..has a 289. Yeah, I know the 67 kit says it's a GT-350, but didn't GT350s have regular Mustang taillights where GT500s had the bar taillights like the AMT kit has. I might be wrong, but I thought the bar taillights were GT500 only offerings, and that is why I think the AMT kit is mismarked.
highway Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 Nope. The difference is the 350s were small block and the 500s were big block cars. No difference in tail lights. Here's a link with lots of pics. http://www.nvsaac.com/gallery/1967_shelby_gt350_4.htm Thanks, Steve!
AMT Pacemakers Posted May 30, 2010 Author Posted May 30, 2010 (edited) Thanks Steve, I read some review somewhere years ago about the back window being the wrong shape or something, but I can't find any flaws myself, also read it couldn't be built as a real GT because of the deluxe interior, which I also have found to be wrong, Gt's did come with the deluxe if so ordered. So I'm now in the first stage of building a 390 GTA 67 Mustang!!! Just got to find the air cleaner, Robert Edit; If you take a magnifing glass and look at the grille emblem on the GT350 kit [the one with the red "real" GT on it] you can barely make out GT500, also the side stripe numbers have been touched up to read 350 Edited May 30, 2010 by Coker Creek Speed Shop
AMT Pacemakers Posted May 30, 2010 Author Posted May 30, 2010 "the front stance is a bit high, but the Mustangs from that era typically sat lower in the rear than the front. flipping the spindles does help make things a bit better stance wise." You know I've read this in several different places, so I took a look at the spindles, and I just don't see how it would make any difference by flipping the spindles, I measured the center of the spindle and its the same no matter which way its flipped. So what am I missing? I agree the stance is a bit to high. Robert

AMT Pacemakers Posted May 30, 2010 Author Posted May 30, 2010 i've built two of the GT kits and both had issues with the rear axle being offset to one side. Dave Centered pinion rear ends will ALWAYS have a left side axle that is 4" shorter than the right side axle. As in 8" Ford axles. Robert
horsepower Posted May 31, 2010 Posted May 31, 2010 (edited) Centered pinion rear ends will ALWAYS have a left side axle that is 4" shorter than the right side axle. As in 8" Ford axles. Robert And nine inch Ford rear gears that these Mustangs were supposed to have, the nine inch was an option in the higher horsepower (and the Mach1 regardless of power)versions Edited May 31, 2010 by horsepower
Jeff Johnston Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I think only Steve actually answered your question lol It's a good kit. What Steve said about the front is true. Also, the front wheels stick out of the wheel wells, so you have to fiddle with the assembly to get the wheels to sit properly in the wheel wells.
charlie8575 Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Nice job with the trunk mat; where'd you dig that up...or how did you make it? Charlie Larkin
AMT Pacemakers Posted June 6, 2010 Author Posted June 6, 2010 (edited) Ditto on the trunk mat, also did you make the rear taillight panel or is that a resin part? Robert Edited June 6, 2010 by Coker Creek Speed Shop
Jeff Johnston Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 I printed the trunk mat by copying the pattern off the internet, making it black and white via photoshop, resizing it to scale and printing. Then I cover it in clear shipping tape to make it look like vinyl. The rear piece is a Replica's in Miniatures resin piece. He used to make a whole resin kit that had the non CT grill, the rocker panel molding, better side vents and the ribbed rear. He made this for me a few years ago even though its out of regular production.
goodguyinar416 Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Now that is one sharp looking kit and the trunk mat is awesome. Love it....Great job.. Art ABC Specialties Resin Casting http://public.fotki.com/Goodguyinar416/
vamach1 Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 It's a pretty good model and R&M of Maryland has some nice resin parts for it.
sfhess Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 67 and 68 Shelby Mustangs had different taillights. The 67s had Cougar taillights with a plain bezel that eliminated the vertical bars. 68 and 69 Shelby Mustangs had 65 Thunderbird taillights with the vertical bars.
Mr Stock Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I built this one about 10 years ago, its a really nice kit and I thoroughly enjoyed building it. I can only echo what others have said about the front end ride height and the wheels sticking out too far, I built mine box stock apart from the wheels, definitely time for me to buy this one again and fix the above issues, certainly one of AMT's better kits. Excuse the old photos.

Mark Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 I'd guess no changes to the plastic parts, but new tires and improved decals. There is little to fault in the kit as it was first issued, so what else would need to be changed?
