Casey Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I stopped at my local Hobby Lobby store roday and they had at least 25% of their kits marked down to clearance prices. Round2 Stingaree and Infini-T, two old time Lindberg kits, a few Tamiya kits (Porsche Speedster was one), the Revell '68 Bullitt Mustang, '94(?) Impala SS, and a Italeri L.A. Police Dept. Tow truck marked down to $30.00 from $70.00. They appear to be making room for another round of new kits, so if you haven't stopped into your local store for a while, now migh tbe a good time to do so...and don't forget the 25% off coupon this week.
iBorg Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Once again I wish we had a Hobby Lobby less than an hour away. I do have the advantage of a good hobby shop about forty minutes away. Guess that makes up for it. Mike

The coupon is only good on non-sale items. So it's either buying an item on sale, or using the coupon for an item not on sale... the won't give you both.

True, but it's possible someone might be enticed to buy a non-clearance model kit if they have a 25% off copon in hand while picking up a clearance kit or two. Knowing how frugal most modelers are, it's highly improbable, but I like to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I find myself going there several times a month... mostly for detail items in the "other" aisles. It's amazing how many cool items they carry that can be used to detail model cars, especially in the jewelry aisles.

Mike Would that be the one about halfway between Charleston and Huntington on I64? I believe the name of it might be WV Hobbies out in the Scott Depot area. If that's the one, I stopped there a time or two, it is a decent place.

They are a craft store similar to micheals or AC moore. Heres their website: http://hobbylobby.com/
jeffb Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 was just as the local hobby lobby. they had one kit on clearance, so it may be a store by store thing. they did have all kits 30% off tho. and the local news paper had a 40% off coupon
Zoom Zoom Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Clearance items are all at the discretion of the particular store you are in. I went out this AM to see 90+ exotic cars line up locally for a charity run, and went by the HL a couple blocks away. They had a decent selection and several good deals on clearance models (basically seemed like 40% off original prices), but ultimately I only came home with two bottles of paint. The lady in front of me gave me her extra 25% off coupon I did spy an underpriced GT500KR kit that I may pick up when the next 40% off coupon hits.
camaroman Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 In reference to Bob's under priced comment above; Always check every box for the price... I scored a 57 Black Widow last week for around 10 bucks... they had priced the same price as the AMT 57 Chevy and then I added a 40% coupon to that. The other one on the shelf was priced 23.95. Always checkum all...

Only seen it a couple times in all these years, but it happens...they use labels, and don't utilize the barcodes...really old fashioned way of doing business, these days.
1320wayne Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 I've only been into one HL store within the last few years, simply because we haven't had any around here. But, I pulled into a local shopping plaza last week and low and behold a banner now hangs from a store that was just vacated and that banner says....coming soon, Hobby Lobby. So, we are finally getting one. It will probably be a couple of months before it's opened and ready to accept my hard earned money.

highway Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Is Nitro Hobby still in business? Yeah, Tom it is. Mike (iBorg) and I were talking via PM about those earlier, and he said that Nitro Hobby is owned by WV Hobbies out there in the Scott Depot/Hurricane area. I just happened to know of them because I delivered freight in that area quite a bit for a company I used to work for up here in the northern part of WV just outside Wheeling. Oh, and by the way everyone, these are just local shops, they are not parts of the national chains, sorry for any confusion earlier.
charlzrocks Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 My nearest HL is an hour away (and the ONLY hobby shop for 100+ miles) but they do have some good closeout kits here and there. Harry is right on the money when it comes to all the cool stuff in the other isles that can be used for modeling. Beads and baubles aside, they have a limited stock of kits but by no means a bad selection. I wait for the 40% off coupon and go up to by the big display cases, it's a deal!
LOBBS Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 It's worth checking the paint racks too. I was just in today and they had all the bottled Model Master lacquers on clearance.
mikemodeler Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 In today's newspaper ad for Hobby Lobby there is a 40% off coupon. As most of us know, you can also go to their website and print off the coupon too. Stopped in a Michaels yesterday and they were registering folks for their website so they could send you the coupons electronically. They are trying to reduce costs of printing and distributing paper ads. Have found some great deals at both stores. Yesterday I got a '66 GTO from Michaels for $9.99 on clearance and the other day I got a '69 Yenko Camaro from HL for $10.49. I didn't need either kit but I hadto help the economy 'cuz thats what they say on the TV!
