Steve Keck Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 Declan, You say the paint is real automotive paint. Did you apply it yourself? And, if so, then what did you use for primer? And, what is the body made of - styrene or resin?

I have had luck using brake fluid to remove these type of paints,in some cases I have had to do a light sanding to break the finish so it would penetrate and attack the paint. Dont use on a resin body.

Guest Gramps-xrds Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 Are you sure it's cellulose paint. Most paint companies did away with that type of paint way back in the 50s or 60s because it would check and crack or what they called spidering. Duponts nitro cellulose black was some of the best I ever used in my air brush for murals. It should strip with oven cleaner or brake fluid though sense it's lacquer.
