Plasticfanatic
Japanese kits are not usually wrapped, unless it's by their importer. I've always heard that Japanese modelers will not buy a kit without opening it at the shop and making sure everything's in the box and correct. Everything I've ever bought straight out of Japan was unwrapped. And I think you are 100% percent correct about this detail, there's an amazing series in YouTube about a Japanese modeling show/tutorials in which some times a visit to the local modeler area SUPER STOCKED hobby shop is shown....ALL the kits in the store are unwrapped and when the buyer is interested in buying the kit, is permited by the store owner to open and inspect the kit as you well said, the first time I saw this my thinking was "well maybe since is for a TV show customer".....but is the same always and with everyone!!! The Junkman
even the Olds Aurora powered Series 1 made it into a plastic kit, and it was pretty much a huge failure as a 1:1! You and I know that but the Shelby Factory tour in Las Vegas says it was just a problem of not being able to get consistent supply of engines! I'm sure all the PO'd customers would have accepted that explanation. Nice tour if you want to buy a bunch of over-priced t-shirts and look at a few OK cars. The "factory tour" can be summed up with "Stand here and don't touch anything. No photos either." I'm very much looking forward to the new kit. Maybe an up to date FIA version or even a street Cobra would also be very nice.
Len Woodruff
Anybody heard status on the Cobra Daytona that was announced awhile back?
Zoom Zoom
Last I heard from Ed Sexton in regards to the Academy Daytona, they were still working on the design of the kit, to be completed sometime in September. With Ed back at Revell, we probably won't see/hear much about this kit until it hits the shelves. Perhaps they will have something to show at iHobby later this month. Zoom Zoom
Good point Bob. I had forgot that iHobby was later this month. I keep forgetting about it as well. I used to be excited about hobby show announcements, not so much anymore. Too many models over the years announced that I wanted, but never materialized. sjordan2
Has anyone built this one? Looks nice, but it's a curbside. This one's currently on eBay. Edited October 19, 2010 by sjordan2
Darin Bastedo
Has anyone built this one? Looks nice, but it's a curbside. This one's currently on eBay. I've owned at least three, never built any of them, gave one as a birthday present. they aren't exactly the easiest to build but I have seen others build them up nice. I ended up buying the HRM Resin kit. it costs $185.00 but is worth every penny. It's clean and very detailed.
Greg Myers
I'm going to kit bash a K&B slot car body with an AMT 289 Cobra. A little work with the saw, the body looks pretty good. Edited October 22, 2010 by Greg Myers
torinobradley
HRM sells a chassis detail kit for the Gunze Cobra Daytona along with the FIA engine for it. It's basically what you need to turn the Gunze kit into a full detail. Since I have the Gunze kit already, I figure I'll be going that route. That is, if I ever get the Grand Sport off the bench. jsimmons
I know this is an old thread, but what would be REALLY cool is to be able to build the 427-equipped Super Coupe. Maybe someone will do a transkit for this model when it comes out. I had one of those Gunze kits and couldn't manage the build. Greg Myers
" what would be REALLY cool is to be able to build the 427-equipped Super Coupe." Mini Exotics had the first trans kit. They went out of business and I believe Detail Masters picked them up, now carried by R&D Unique, but I can't find either on their web site. jsimmons
R&DUnique has a Super Coupe transkit. I'd been reading bad things about R&D though (don't recall where). It's a lot of money for an unknown quality. Besides that, I googled the transkit for about an hour, and couldn't find one available for sale anywhere. I did, however, find a Super Coupe kit, but I'm not willing to pay $240 for it. Edited March 19, 2011 by jsimmons

I don't know where you would have read anything bad about them other than they are currently not operating. They were one of the first aftermarket firms dating back to the early 80's and always have been known for the highest quality parts. I have the Transkit in question and it is as good as most on the market. I'm pleased with it.

Beyond that, I can't find the trans-kit anywhere, so it's kind of a moot point.

jsimmons
Jay check your PM. Got it, and replied. That's gonna look really nice sitting next to the Accurate Miniatures Grand Sport I'm gonna build. I've never done resin before, so I hope I don't somehow screw it up.
jsimmons
Mailed the Supercoupe today Priority Mail. Cool! There are only two other kits available that I know of - one is 1/24, comes from MFH, is resin, costs $345, and has received some pretty poor reviews. The other is from Marsh Models and is 1/43 (also resin), and is about $60 (or $300 if you want one already assembled/painted). I hope I do this one justice (I already have a 427 Cobra donor kit). I don't understand why one of the manufacturers don't do these cars. There are no legal entanglements, and there are plenty of cars available to conduct research and measurements on. I hope Academy's coupe is decent, but I don't know what to expect - I've never seen one of their kits. My model is long gone but remember was a very, very nice kit, but oddly for such a pricey "high class multi media" kit: plastic/ white metal/brass/photoetched parts...NO opening hood....no engine was in box (lower oil pan/trans cubrside type) ...the "toughest" curbside I ever made anyway a real museum piece. ...HRM kit nice but so pricey for resin They seemed to have the annoying tendancy to overcomplicate things just to do it. The Messerschmitt KR200 was really frustrating. I liked the Ferrari GTO better, but you aren't wrong about the sticker shock. So much improved over the Gunze kit as you'll get a complete engine and other parts that were left out of the plastic kit. Gunze's Jag I have also, but the one to get is the E-Type that had the removable hardtop included (green car box art). That one is as scarce as hen's teeth! I can't even remember the last time I saw one turn up on eBay. If/when they do show up, either the BIN price is outta sight, or it'll get bid up into the stratosphere!
