Guest roadkill2525 Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 The Caddy is overshadowed by the 59 with its wild fins and the Impala came out in 58 and is know as a big lowrider now by the younger people.
jbwelda Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 ive always loved the chevy but the caddy looks well nice too. the chevy was more a "prol" car while the caddy an elite one so naturally more chevys made it under the customizer knife and later on, to the lowrider crowd. caddys were somewhat out of those guys budget i would think. i remember going to a car show in st louis in early 60s as a kid and being wowed by this 58 chevy with sculpted everything and lowered. it looked really bad and i fell in love right there. i believe it was deep purple color.
Rob Hall Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Add a decade and it makes an interesting comparison also...'68 Caprice coupe vs. '68 Coupe de Ville..similar rooflines between them.
Guest zebm1 Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I'd have driven tha Cadillac, notice that yu don't need to modify tha Caddy motor, but yu had to modify tha Chubby motor.........just to catch up with tha Cadillac. an besides, yu could get that Caddy with dual Quad AFBs and really get that armoured missle to fly. Zeb
jbwelda Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 couldnt you also get a 409 with dual quads in the chevy? somehow i dont think "fly" really applies to either car.
MrObsessive Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 couldnt you also get a 409 with dual quads in the chevy? somehow i dont think "fly" really applies to either car. 409's didn't debut until late in the '61 model year.............but it was basically a bored out 348 which one could get in '58. '58 348's could be ordered with a 3x2 setup which is what my signature pic is.
jbwelda Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 oh somehow i thought 409s were available in 58. shows what i know. thanks for the correx.
Ramble Tamble Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 the impala. you can't beat those space-age tailights!
JAFFA Posted February 7, 2007 Author Posted February 7, 2007 Well, this seems like a close call so far. Im loggin on here today to ask how you guys feel about mixin eras of production in next weeks oponent, eg. this -58's winner would be competing with for example a -70's car or one from somewhere in the 30's, some people might think theres no comparisment and i should stick to cars wich was produced within 2-3 years from eachother. so what do you think?
Guest zebm1 Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 For comparos I wouldn't go any further than plus or minus 5 yrs when comparing similar styling eras. But say ifn yu wanted to show something like tha Chrysler Airflow vs. that little PT Cruiser for similarities or diferences, why not? It's all in tha theme ain't it? Zeb
Steve D. Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 Of all the old classic's the "58" Chevy has always been one of my true favorites .
