Why exactly do you post?

Recommended Posts

Hey Gang,

I am really curious as to why people post, I know there are probably as many reasons as there are members, so why do YOU post? And, why do YOU comment? I think a lot of people may find this interesting as the topic gains momentum, I know I will. I have seen some wonderful models and topics, with thoughful and insightful, kind and articulate comments, and I have also watched some things go to a hot place in a handbasket really quickly, not always sure why.

I know if it is out there for all to see, then it is fair game for any and all comments, whether spiteful or kind, provocative or a simple "atta boy" (or girl...hey ladies!!), informative or destructive, well...the list can go on and on.

To answer my own questions, have not posted any models yet, hopefully as my work improves will post something worthwhile soon, but...enjoy watching what others build, it improves my skills and just plain puts a smile on my face, especially when it hits the "cool" factor. Don't know how to put the "cool" factor into words, kinda like love, know it when ya feel it, know it when ya don't. Never go looking for it, but always glad when it shows up. When it shows up, usually leave a comment. Or, will leave a comment to ask a question or to improve knowledge on a topic. Almost fell into a "bar fight" awhile back on a topic, made me very uncomfortable here, but it happens, wished it didn't, but....put artistic alpha people in front of a keyboard and, ya get what ya get, right?

So, what are your answers? Thanks.

Mike

I post, to show others my work. Some like it. Some don't. I really don't care either way. I build for me (Hey Andy!!!!) and I build to be better, more accurate with each model. I love to compete and OOB is my favorite class. I post my work to let others see, what might be for some, a kit completed they have never seen.

I comment to either 1) express my satisfaction with their build and skills, or 2) express, in truthful terms, what I see that needs improving. If you claim you made something, and I know for a fact it's a kit piece, I'm going to call you on it. That's why I comment. Most here can not handle the truth, so I just keep most of it to myself. They are not going to improve their skills if they take it personally. They could harbor all that energy and progress to being a better modeler with the honest criticism, but that would require effort on their part, and that's just too hard these days.

Anxious to see what others have to say on this, given the other hot topic going on right now.

David

I like to trade ideas with others.

I like to see my stuff up in lights.

I like to sleaze ideas off others since I have no original ideas of my own.

I like to know what others think about the alone time I spend with plastic little thingies and low lights.

I like to build for MYSELF first and foremost. I then send it out into the ether where it is picked up by aliens and laughed at on other worlds besides this one.

Seriously?

I like the Community it gives me. I have no one else to share these with, with anyone I'm close to. They kinda get it, I guess but it's lost on them for the most part. So you guys have to bear the wreckage I call my model cars. A small price to pay I'd say. At least you don't have to deal with me on a more personal, face to face type level. You've been spared that much.

Bob

Good question.I don't know why. It's not like,I don't have other things to do.It is nice to get an occational pat on the back or hear someone likes it other than myself.I live in the middle of nowhere so the only people to see my builds are friends and family. And I'm not the best builder around I think I'm o.k. but I like building an thats that.Just a good outlet to share our hobbie around the world.

Great question! I post because I like to get opinions and critiques on my stuff I'm building. I don't get offended if somebody doesn't like it or they pick out a flaw, it makes me look at it and try to correct it for next time. I guess because I can't organize a club here in town it makes me post, too. You guys and gals are my model car club, and I think all of us, no matter how well or poor we build, like to show off our stuff from time to time!

As far as commenting on here, I like to see what other people are building and commend them for their work.

I post because I like to show my builds. I'm the only one that sees them when they're on display in my home, but by posting them up here it lets people see them all over the world. As has been said before, some like them, some don't, but that's the beauty of models, you can build them the way YOU like.

I post here because it's fun. Period, end of story.

Any time spent talking about model cars is usually time well spent. I learn a lot, see a lot of cool things, and hopefully can be helpful to some people along the way sharing what I've learned. It's a great way to have contact with people in the hobby you wouldn't get a chance to know otherwise. That's about it.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

4 pages? probably more like 15 pages... My reason is if people see my work and they tell me what I'm doing wrong, then I can be a better modeler.

LOL! Just discussing your post alone could take us to four pages!

Aren't numbers 1 & 5 redundant? But, I digress.

Why do I post?

I don't post many pictures as I don't need many atta boys. All my friends tell me where I could improve so that's covered.

I contribute here where I can.

And

It keeps me out of the bars.

No, seriously now. Posting is a natural in a forum, isn't it? It comes automatically when you start following threads.

The reason why I'm here is because I enjoy discussing the subject of car modelling, with all its nooks and crannies. And this here turned out to be the forum, which has attracted the elite of the hobby. Where else do you find a group of people with such a vast amount of accumulated knowledge, industry insight, building skills, imagination, and good spirit? It is the best forum on the subject I know. The bad news is, until I find a better one, you will have to put up with me.

And look at my posts. My questions outnumber my comments by not a narrow margin. Says something, dunnit?

I like to comment on models because I like to get comments too. and of course we put many hours into our models. so all comments mean someting to me. good or bad.

I don't really ever take my models to shows, so if I never posted them, I'd be the only one who ever saw them! Plus, it's fun to see projects coming together and to comment and provide help to other modelers. And of course, just scoping out a cool model and letting the builder know he done good is fun, too.
