Hey Gang,

Thinking about building a little background for taking simulated indoor pictures, have seen similar walls in other pictures before, anyone know where to buy the walls, maybe train places? Also, know there are other scales that use letters to represent size, like the train folks do, what letter(s) represent 1/24 & 1/25 scale, not sure about that at all. Thanks in advance for all of your help!

G scale would be 1/24, 1/25. You can get plastruct or evergreen styrene brick sheets. Check myatomic (link in my sig). There was a site out there that you could print brick sheets, but I can't think of it right now.

I have seen some really close to scale brick wall paper print at Hobby Lobby. It's only about 60 cents for a 8x10 sheet. There is really good looking brick in the model railroad hobby from Woodland Scenics.

G,day , have you thought of making your own jig and mixing up some plaster of paris and carving your own size bricks that you need .That way you could do all the styles of brick when you want it ?

styrene makes sheets that are 7 by 12 (i think) that come in all sorts of profile, bricks included

this is my backdrop , i used old signs that are made of foam

they had paper stickers on them and once i pulled those off the remaining paper looked like concrete

(kinda like when you have a cardboard box and you pull the tape of it)

Mike,

G & G Model Shop Inc 713-529-7752 http://www.gandgmodelshop.com/

2522 Times Boulevard (Rice Village area, just off Kirby) Houston, TX 77005

and

Mike's Hobby Shop 281-577-8250

21768 E Knox Dr (Just off 59, north of Kingwood) Porter, TX 77365

Both shops are pretty train-heavy, Mike's especially, and Mike's has a lot of large scale train stuff, so they might have some building materials like brick wall sheets, I'm not sure. G&G has a decent selection of stuff to build buildings and architectural models, and may have what you're looking for.

For taking pictures the paper works great. A friend gave me a couple of orginal sheets (11X14) and a couple of copies that are a little lighter that I use when I want something different from my shop and racetracks. I mounted them on foam board and just put it in front of my shop and use the gravel yard for the base. A piece of styrofoam painted black would also work for asphalt and be easy to store (flat sheets) when you're not using it.

I got a few sheets of foam from Hobby Lobby to make a garage diorama that will be made to look like brick. I simulated 1/25 scale bricks by scribing the foam gently with a rounded pencil tip that was drawn down a metal ruler. First I made each line horizontally for the bricks, then flipped it 90 degrees and carefully scribed every other line to make a brick pattern. They are about 1 centimeter or so apart. It took a day to do four sheets, but they look pretty good. To make the surface look a little more realistic, I made a ball out of some aluminum foil and rolled it over the surface with a little pressure. I'll be spraying it with some flat red and or grey primer, and doing some washes with The Detailer. In the end it will look more realistic than paper, but it is your choice. The sheets were only I think $4 or so, for a pack of 4 (I think, it comes in different sizes).
