MILD Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 I am currently looking for a single acrylic display case for my model but am unsure what is the best way to go about securing the car within the box. I don't want to glue it in place so it can be better secured during house moves and also group photos (), the only other thing I can think of would be a very thin spot of a blu tac or similar (like a thin adhesive putty). How do you guys get around it? Also, what size case is typically used- I looked at the 1:24 cases but there is no way my '60 Impala will fit in one so I've had to go up to a 1:18- is this relatively common? Thanks gents.
charlie8575 Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 A 1/24-25 display case will hold just about anything, but if you find it fits better in a 1/18 case, go for it. Usually, there are provisions in tbe base to run twist-ties through. Simply loop them around the axles in an upside-down "U" before placing the model in the case, and place it on the base, positioned so the ties go through the holes. Twist up and you're done. You could probably super-glue the ties together to make sure they don't loosen if you wanted to. Charlie Larkin
DrewCfromSC Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 I like the twist tie idea. Got a guitar or music store nearby? Ask them for some old little E music wire. This works well too with a small hole drilled into the case where you want it to go through. You could slip the wire over the axle or frame to hold it down for you. Drew C. from S.C.
Jon Cole Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 I have some of the old clear cases from JoHan around here somewhere. They have two holes for each tire location... run the wire through each hole and twist. I used a typical small gauge "hobby & flower" wire.
Guest Johnny Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 I have never tied mine down! But have discovered if they sit in there long enough the tires seem to glue themselves to the plastic! You can literally turn it upside down! When ever I store them of move I will cut a piece of paper to fit the inside the case top. Set the model inside and completelt surround with wadded up tissue paper I get from the dollar store! Then pack the cases stacked into a box!
