Has anyone had any experience with Otaki kits? I see them on E Bay occaisionally but I know nothing about the quality, fit, finish etc of these kits. Can anyone shed some light on these kits for me? Thanks

From what i've seen, Otaki car kits are simplified attempts at American automotive subjects. I'm sure there are some good kits but A lot of them feature simplified, motorized type chassis and the body proportions appear as if Otaki only had photos to go by and not many measurements. I really like their wheel and tire sets though!

Thanks. I'm watching a Can Am Shadow kit on E Bay right now. There aren't to many Can Am subjects out there and the Shadow would be a pretty obscure subject to build. Depending on how the bidding goes I may take a flyer on it.

Same here, I've got a few sets of them.

Otaki went away in the early 80s and lots of their molds got used again by other companies as well...

I believe some of the molds are in the hands of Doyusha or Arii.

John, I hope you get it and post pic's of the kit. I've been tempted to try and get one but the combination of the "off" scale (1:28) and lack of detailed images has left me off to the side lines.

John, I hope you get it as well, To me the UOP Shadow was one of the coolest Can-Am cars, apart from the McLarens and Porsche 917-30.

I have seen a super kit composed of resin and photo etched pieces, but that was out of my price range. This auction was in my eBay watch list, but I will delete it now that I know you are considering it. Good luck, and I too am curious as to the contents / quality of the kit.

I agree completely with your opinion of the Can Am cars. I'm working on the 917 30 right now and have the 1/20 McLarens waiting to be re-built. The Shadow was ugly but way cool. I loved to go Mid Ohio every year for the Can Am. Great series.
