RacinRay88 Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Hey everyone! So heres the scoop. I have a 1990 Camaro sitting in my parents driveway taking up space. I would love to race it in the Street Stock class at our local track (wilmot raceway) but they wont allow Camaros, El Caminos, Firebirds and such, even if you were to connect the sub-frame they wouldnt allow it (some bogus rules if you ask me!) so i built the next best thing.... my fantasy camaro stock car. i created the decals myself for the first time using testors decal creator kit. its not as easy as i thought it would be haha. also used a dremmel tool to cut grooves into the tires, slicks dont work so well on dirt so i converted the hoosier slicks into hoosier dirt grabbers:P After a tough season filled with on-track incidents the car got a fresh paint job, new nose, new primary sponsor and some patch work After a rainy start of the month it took a while to get the track dialed in, but by nights end the #86 machine came from the back to take the win in the A-main feature event. thanks for lookin!
Foxer Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 I love the homemade look to this .. the patched panels and dings. The dirt is VERY well done .. looks realistic.
dencon Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Now that is a very very cool looking model. Looks like allot of the street stockers that ran around here in the 90s when the 2nd Gen Camaros started to dry up. Great job. I like your decal work.
Railfreak78 Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Awesome! 2 thumbs up on a fantastic build. I love every angle of this Camaro!

AceofBass Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 How did you make the dents? Melting? I've always wanted to try that.
raymanz Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Hey everyone! So heres the scoop. I have a 1990 Camaro sitting in my parents driveway taking up space. Sharp Build-Like the clean pics, shows off the dents and such-but the mud OK too. Just think the clean car shows your work alittle more. Keep putting out the COOL Ridez!!
RacinRay88 Posted October 22, 2010 Author Posted October 22, 2010 How did you make the dents? Melting? I've always wanted to try that. the body panel dents i heated up with a lighter then pushed, pulled, dented in, smushed where ever i felt there would be damage on the 1:1 car. as for the front and rear "sheet metal" patch work i used styrene sheet and glued it in place. after the glue dried i heated it up and conformed it to the body as if being beat into place by a hammer at the track. i love racing so i go to as many races here as i can and after seeing all the bumping, spin outs, crashes you get a good idea of where the damage should be and where the mud is thrown on the car. im really glad you all like it!!
mikemodeler Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Nice job there Ray, you captured the look of the damage and mud very well. I used to live near there and remember going to that racetrack many times. My wife's cousin ran sprint cars and modifieds there and won a few track championships over the years. I loved the racing but hated the dust flying, some nights it was hard to see the track! The first time I went I couldn't understand why nobody was sitting down low and close to the track until the first heat race and the mud went flying! By the time I could find a seat up high, I was covered in dust & mud! Hope all is well in K-town!
RacinRay88 Posted October 23, 2010 Author Posted October 23, 2010 Haha you're exactly right! Especially when the Sprint cars are running I would bring a pair of goggles cause there is no way you're keeping all that dust out of your eyes! What was the drivers name?
