Jairus Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Hey, ever wanted to build one of these? Well my friend Geoffrey Hacker has set up a web site for just that. Belly Tanks and Streamliners is a site he periodically updates with scans and stories about the subject. If you sign up he will send you an email each time a new article is posted and you can post your own ideas and suggestions. It is a great forum for research about these Bonneville speedsters. Enjoy! Incidentally... the Ford V8 60 engine was the powerplant of choice for these vehicles and with the release of the new Revell Midget kits... finally provides us builder with a KORRECT engine!!! whoohoo
my name is nobody Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 thats great! cool picture. I have a WWII Belly Tank sitting in my barn. I think its off of a P-38. would like to see it done up as a Lakester.
Jairus Posted December 30, 2010 Author Posted December 30, 2010 There is a new addition to the Bellytank and streamliners reference site. This one is the Burke & Francisco Streamliner.
Eric Stone Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Thanks, J. I signed up. I found a resin kit a while back for a belly tanker... Might have to find the website again and pick one up. I've got the fever for early dry lakes/salt flat stuff because I picked up "The American Hot Rod" by Dean Batchelor last week. EXCELLENT book! Good stories and info, and awesome photos. I'm ready to get back home and start building some roadsters!
Eric Stone Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 Yep, Mark, that would be the one I was referring to, I think. I recognize the name Star, and I know I have it bookmarked at home. I thought I had seen just the tank offered in resin, so you could scratch the frame and everything else. Again, I think I have it bookmarked at home.
59 Impala Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Here's one that I built from a 1/24th P-51 drop tank. I used the 49 Merc flathead. I hope ya like. Dan
