carsntrucks4you Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Here my newest project More pictures here Snowmobile Michael
Foxer Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 That is cool! Are you planning something for the rear for some traction?
carsntrucks4you Posted January 2, 2011 Author Posted January 2, 2011 (edited) That is cool! Are you planning something for the rear for some traction? Yes, I'm waiting for some 1/35 workable Churchill tracks from AFV-Club. Similar to this Edited January 2, 2011 by carsntrucks4you
Matt P Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 This is cool, the 1:1 pic is sick. You're off to a good start.
my name is nobody Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 very nice build up. this vehicle reminds me of a 1:1 Snowmobile hauler we had when I was a boy. only it was a '48 Chevy with a flatbed. That old truck was indestructible. As an FYI, There is an American diecast company, "Johnny Lightning" that made a Snowmobile in their line of diecast. why would I share this info? Because they are 1/25 scale!
carsntrucks4you Posted January 11, 2011 Author Posted January 11, 2011 (edited) Here a quick mock up of the tracks. The tracks are Churchill tracks from AFV-Club and a CMK VW Type 87 (Beetle) donors his sand tyres. These snad tyres will be change with some 1/35 Willys Jeep tyres from Italeri. The look much better I think I have to modify the skids to get more clearence between tracks and skis. To be continued Edited January 11, 2011 by carsntrucks4you
Krazy Rick Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 This is a neat project ! .... I really like this different sort of stuff
crazyjim Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 How would the doors open? Looks like the track to move to the rear a bit. What a cool idea.
Krazy Rick Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 How would the doors open? Looks like the track to move to the rear a bit. What a cool idea. Good question !! ....it looks like the wheels/clearance, differs on 1:1 pic

Good question !! ....it looks like the wheels/clearance, differs on 1:1 pic Cool project lool at the 1/1 you can see a seam on the door going upward starting at the lower hinge
crazyjim Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Looks like having the drive wheel in the middle and moving the plastic wheels to either side would give the necessary clearance. Or fill & re-scribe the door.
carsntrucks4you Posted January 21, 2011 Author Posted January 21, 2011 (edited) There where some discussions about a different layout of the small wheels. Here they are: No thanks, I'll stay with my first idea Next steps: I had been working on the tracks. The small wheels will be from a 1/35 Willys Jeep. I Before you start a discussion this is a possible set up that I found on the web. It could be that the this is not 100% correct but the main issue here is the look. I alsp moved the skieds in a different position to get more clearance. Edited January 21, 2011 by carsntrucks4you
Foxer Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 I'm surprised to see this works, but the 1:1 photo does have regular tires. Most tracked vehicles use cogs for traction with the treads. This DOES look good though! I like the last photos with the large rear tire. BTW, with another big snowstorm this morning, can I borrow this to get my morning MacMuffin?
carsntrucks4you Posted February 6, 2011 Author Posted February 6, 2011 I had done some more work on my Snowmobile Snow made out of Woodland Scenic Snow powder. Stay tuned
Dr. Cranky Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 You definitely going to end up with a one of a kind model! Can't wait to see more.
carsntrucks4you Posted February 6, 2011 Author Posted February 6, 2011 (edited) On this project I tried the first time Distress Crackle Paint. I first sprayed the wood strips with black ink and then I applied several coats of Weather Wood , Picket Fence, Old Paper and Frayed Burlap. To get a deeper apperance of the cracks I used black ink, which wasn't that what I want. You can see this on the two far left wood strips and the two smaller stripes. Therefore I used The Detailer Black to get a different look. This was used on all other wood strips. Any comments are welcome. Edited February 6, 2011 by carsntrucks4you
Tony T Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Sure looks like wood that has been out in the elements! Nicely done!
carsntrucks4you Posted February 18, 2011 Author Posted February 18, 2011 (edited) My snowmobile is almost finished. Just a bit snow is missing. Any comments are welcome! Michael Edited February 18, 2011 by carsntrucks4you
crazyjim Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 That thing came out looking great. Nice work, Michael.
