Danno Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Speaking of police pursuit vehicles, here's the latest thing in AZ Highway Patrol vehicles. They've got a bunch of them! Who needs Crown Vics?

Agent G Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I've seen these Fords as far north as Henderson on the 95. AZ DPS and NHP run joint operations on the border, which sometimes leads them all the way up by me. Yes, I do believe the funeral is today. It has been a bad year for Law Enforcement already. G
samdiego Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) Harder to outrun than the radar trailers they leave all over the place. You can run about 85 mph there without worry, that feels zippy. I used to have a photo I took of the (in the mid 80s) new Border Patrol Z28 parked behind the new AZ Highway Patrol Mustang GT along side the freeway. I wonder who was busting who or were they just checking each other out? Edited February 22, 2011 by samdiego

niteowl7710 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Those F-150's are assigned to Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, which hasn't gotten new trucks since 2005, so they're well overdue for some new rides.
Danno Posted February 22, 2011 Author Posted February 22, 2011 Those F-150's are assigned to Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, which hasn't gotten new trucks since 2005, so they're well overdue for some new rides. Actually, these are brand new units, both 150's and 250's. CVE's older units were Ram pickups. And, they're using both 150's and 250's for regular patrol assignments and smuggling mitigation teams as well as CVE. Many of the unmarked pickups are being used by investigators (particularly smuggling, gang, and auto theft task forces) and even some for staff vehicles. Besides the pickups, they're running Tahoes, a few Impalas, and still a boat load of long-tooth Crown Vics. Haven't seen any Chargers on the road, but there's still a couple of really old Intrepids that are used for running errands but not regular duty.
ra7c7er Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) Back when I was street racing a local departments officer, in a police truck, tried to pull me over for speeding. Needless to say it didn't take long for me to loose him. He never even got close enough to get my license plate. The next day I sent the department and officer a letter that just said "REALLY" and a signed photo of my car. I guess they got the last laugh though I couldn't drive through that town for a year without getting pulled over. I like police trucks they make me smile. Maybe in 6 years Lindberg will release these. Edited February 22, 2011 by ra7c7er
Guest Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Just recently, a buddy warned me that one of the state troopers in our county was driving an unmarked Taurus SHO. I guess it's going to be the replacement for the Crown Vic.
moparmagiclives Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) In this neck of the woods, most of the city and county officers are going to Hemi Chargers. The staters went with alot of 2dw tahoes a few years back. They seem to do pretty well, even in the bad weather. Edited February 22, 2011 by moparmagiclives
Guest Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 smells alot like B.S. to me. Just be glad that you didn't step in it Dave! It's deep!
Erik Smith Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 It would be nice to see someone do a newer truck kit - the four door 150s and 250s could be the base for so many kit variants and builds. The engines on all the newer Fords (especially diesels) would probably be best molded as a lump though - there is so much stuff piled in them you can't see past the top end - I think the 2010 diesels have about 5 different radiators/coolers up front alone.
niteowl7710 Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 If you're going to drag Texas into this, we'll be here all night. I believe there maybe more F-150s as squads in certain parts of the state than 4 door sedans.
