I was able to sit down for a few and tinker on this build for a short time tonight. Didn't get too much done but did get to test fit the headers to the heads and insterted the bolts to see how it all fit together. Then I started cutting the bolt heads and drilling holes for the new bolts going into my new resin engine. Here are a few pics.....

Mocked the headers up to the heads with the bolts:

Taped that heads to the block with the headers to see how it looked:

Very impressive work Chris.. I would hate to even imagine the amount of money you have in bolt studs and such for all the details. I cringe in thinking that I will have to do the same soon enough. :)

Bart thanks man!!! yeah I will have to admit that I have quite a bit of money wrapped up in this build so far between the kit, turned aluminum parts, photo-etch parts, nuts & bolts (from Scale Hardware), Fittings (From RB Motion). And I am not even done with getting parts for it...lol I have a spread sheet that I have made with everything that I am using so far and when I get more stuff that will go into it. I know that I will be very happy with the end results on this build.

Chris, I use to do this with my other projects and end the end, it was way to scary to see how much money I would put into a project. So I just stopped calculating the cost, and just build to what I want in a model and enjoy the end result. Because if I knew what I put into them these days, I would cry once it was all done.

Then knowing I could never get out of it what I put into the model, if I was ever to sell it... I would be completely frustrated.

Joe... Thanks for the compliments man, much appreciated.

Bart.... I know its kind of scarey to keep track at how much you have in a build but not every build is done like this. This was one of those that I was planning on doing alot too. But yeah I probably don't want to know how much will be into it when Its done.

John... Thanks buddy, I appreciate you following along and that you are enjoying the progress on it. I am really anxious to have more of this done but this project requires alot of patience.

Randy... Thanks man, its fun to mock up the parts to kind of get the feel of how its gonna look.

I was able to make some more progress on this today. Put a couple of hours in working on a few items on the engine. I had finished cutting all of the bolt heads off the front timing plate and did the same with the oil pan. Its pretty teadious work drilling all of those holes out but the results are worth it. Won't bore you anymore by talking, so here are a couple of pics of the progress today. thanks for looking....

Was able to sit down tonight and do a little more work on the workbench. I decided to go a different direction tonight and started working on the driver seat. I am taking the kit seat and modifying it. I have cut some of the edges off and then splitting the seat in half to make the seat wider. It is just the start of the seat and now I am debating if I should possibly try an make it from brass or not. Anyway its not much work I got done but a start on it. Here are the pics

I started out by cutting all of the side pieces off the top area:

Next, started cutting the seat down the middle to make it wider and to fit up against the chassis:

After I had cut the seat in half:

Tapped off the sides to cut more material off to follow the chassis:

Started sanding the upholstery off the plastic, will finish sanding and then lay bondo down to smooth out to have a smooth seat:

Chris, details coming along great! Gotta love sanding off seat upholstry, at least you get rid of those scale correct belts/buckles huh :D

Nice progress and am thoroughly enjoying following this build to your exacting standards. Why not try building the seat out of aluminum? For the most part, it has straight lines and flat planes to work with and being a 1/16" scale would make it even better. Come on, you know you want to. Go for it.

Chris if you don't mind me asking what size "Scale Hardware" bolts did you use to detail out the timing chain cover and pan?

If you do decide to take Brad up on his idea, at least you won't have to make a jig for it. :D

...templates maybe, but not a jig...

Can't wait to see more of this- bolts on the timing chain cover and oil pan are looking really good! I can't wait to get MPC Vega FC glue bomb, and get building it. It's 1/24 scale, but body is same style. Great progress, keep going.

Hey everyone Thanks again for all of the great comments. They are always welcome as well a suggestions. Really appreciate you guys following along. Just wish I could make progress faster on it. I have had family in town since last week so I haven't had a whole lot of time to get much done but will be getting back to it sunday evening for sure and should start having more progress to share with you guys.

Charlie.... You are right about being able to get rid of those molded in buckles. Its going to be lots of sanding and lots of Bondo....lol

Brad.... you are right about trying to make it out of aluminum. I will probably end up doing this plastic one and then trying to make it out of brass or aluminum. I know twice the work but that way I can fall back to the plastic if need be. The only reason I am thinking brass is that I would be able to Solder it much easier. I honestly think it would look so much better out of aluminum or brass.

Tyrone... Thanks

Scott (futurattraction).... Thank you for the kind words about going above and beyond.

Bart... the Scale Hardware bolts that I used for the oil pan and timing cover are the Simulated Hex Bolt 0.85 mm head Part # SMHB-08-B ( you can also get nickle plated brass, part # is SMHB-08N)

Scott... Thanks and glad you have been enjoying following along.

Joe... you are right about not having to make a Jig but rather a template. You just gave me an idea. I may actually try and model this in solidworks making it a sheet metal part and I can make a flat pattern from it and will give me my template to cut the material from.... Hmmm My wheels are turning now maybe it won't be as hard as I was thinking.

Niko... Thanks buddy. I can't wait to finally get some primer on this engine. I need to fill a few of the small pin holes with some bondo and was trying to get all of my holes drilled out for bolts before primer. One of the next things I need to start working on for the engine is I will need to modify or scratch build valve covers to match the pics that I have or I will probably start drilling holes in the blower and get that ready. super excited to start shooting some alclad on the block. I look forward to seeing your Vega FC when you get it. I know you will do some great things with it.

That's tomorrow, it sounds like, I have to post a topic about it, but one thing is sure... It needs to be Detailed build, I'm sure about it.

Holy smokes, those bolt heads are neat....patience, patience,...I have to keep telling myself that. You have to have incredible patience. Not my strong point....

Neat stuff Chris. B)

The seat will surely be at minimum, a 100% improvement of original. :) Great work.

And nothing like the odd "real" nut'n'bolt thrown in to add bucket loads of visual impact. Tedious, but well worth the time. ;) B)
