Nitrozilla Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 x2 what John said..... X2 what Tyrone said about what John said.
gasser59 Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 x3 what Joe said regarding what Tyrone said about what John said. Sorry...couldn't help myself but its all true.
Mooneyzs Posted November 3, 2011 Author Posted November 3, 2011 John.... Thank you for the kind words. There are so many great builders on this site and for you to put me up there with the rest of them means alot. Its big shoes to fill because I feel there are many better builders than myself. I feel honored you would put me up there. I have always admired your work. Thank you Scott Bart... Thanks man, I kept wondering how I was going to get the look I was going for. And if any of you are interested in doing this you can get these O-rings from McMaster-Carr.com. They were the smallest size that they carried and for a pack of 100 it was like $1.92. I was going to look up another company called parker-hannifin to see if they carry even smaller ones. Let me know if you guys want the part number to these from McMaster. Tyrone, Joe & Brad.... Thank you all. I have been learning alot from everyone on this site and just honored to be part of a great community here.
Mooneyzs Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 (edited) Alright Fellas....gotta share what I got in the mail with you yesterday. I received my hub from Jim @ Micro Nitro and he did a great job on them. I can't wait to get off work tonight so that I can start working on them a little. Going to tap the holes and ge the wheel studs put in and debur them just a smidge. A big thanks goes out to Jim for his work on these. here are the pics.... Â The Front side of the Hubs: Â Â Â Â Â The Back side of the Hubs: Â Â Â Â Â Here is the hubs inserted into the disk brake, I had to slightly sand the inside of my photo etch disks since the ID were a smidge small: Â Edited July 23, 2017 by Mooneyzs
gasser59 Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Those hubs look great and I too can't wait for you to get home and provide us with more progress on this incredible, high caliber, top notch build. When I sit down to check in on the forums, this is the thread I look for first and rightly so, as I'm learning so much here and am also really enjoying your excitement putting this all together.
Mooneyzs Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 Brad.... Thanks for the words of encouragement. Cant tell you how excited I am to sit down and do a little work on this tonight. I.havent been able to touch this for over a week now and am having widthdrawls lol. Glad you enjoying following along and thanks for all of the suggestions and feedback.
futurattraction Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Hey Chris, Do you know/remember off-hand how much shipping was for your pack of O-rings? I'm wondering how well they'd work for wheelie bar wheels...
gasser59 Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 I've used the small 'O' rings from Bic lighters for wheelie wheels before and the shipping was free. If I remember right, there were two in each lighter.
Mooneyzs Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 Scott.... I am.not exactly sure what shipping is for these I had these added to an order they were doing at my work so i didnt have to pay for shipping lol. I was able sit down for a few last night and started. Working on the hubs. I deburred them with very fine sand paper and started tapping the holes for the studs. When i get home from work tonight I will finish tapping the holes, make the studs and get them installed. I will post pics of them when I get them done.
futurattraction Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 Okay. Thanks Chris... What size did you end up getting for you MC boot?
Mooneyzs Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 (edited) Scott... The part number from McMaster is 9452K111 and size is 1/32" ID and 3/32" OD. AS568A-001 is the industry number for that type and size. you could give to a local supplier a call and see if they have some. Edited November 5, 2011 by Mooneyzs
eviltwincustoms Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Nice Disc brake rotors Chris are those from the PE kits that ProTech makes?
Prostreet Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Master cylinder looks fantastic, More info on the Photoetched rotors.
Danno Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Please allow me to register yet another ... 'WOW!'
Mooneyzs Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 (edited) Thanks guys!!... Bart and Joe.... about the photo-etch disk brakes, I wish they were from Charlie at Pro-Tech since he has some of the best stuff in the industry but I actually go them off of e-bay. The user ID I got them from is scaledetails. I searched and searched for photo-etch brakes in 1/16th scale and finially was able to come across this person on ebay. They were detail kits for Ferrari and they had them in 1/16th scale and 1/18, So I picked up both not knowing which would work better for my build. Small Update for everyone. I did get to work on my Hubs for a very little amount this weekend but due to working all weekend well i should say working straight for two weeks with no days off 10-12 hour days doesn't leave much room for anything else... . I got them debured and was able to tap the holes. although now I need a new tap, the last hole I did I messed the tap up , oh well its part of the hobby I haven't gotten time to make the studs and get them installed. Although I may have to have Jim Turn another set for me since the holes didn't quite line up with the rims. I am working on a way to make them work but may have to have a back up plan and have another set of hubs and rear rims made for this. Anyway Hopefully I will be able to snap a couple of pics tonight when I get home from work and show you. Sorry for not having them and hopefully everyone can understand. Thanks Chris, I think I actually have that same kit, what is awesome about it, is it also comes with photo etched pedals and the 5 or 6 point harness, that I would only need to swap over to a 7 point. That sucks about the hubs not matching up with the wheels. I guess that is one thing that always hurts when you have things made at different times. I am sure Jim is probably cussing up a storm then on mine as well, since he hasn't started the center section for my wheels.
MicroNitro Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Chris - Witch did a screw up the wheels or the hubs. They were both suppose to be 5 on.300" dia. I will make a new pair of witch ever would be less work for you. Man I am sorry! I have you pulleys turned but need to set up the mill to do the cogs. Bart - I got your centers done except for the outer holes I should get the bit for them and the bead locks tomorrow.

Nice, that is cool that you figured in the bolt pattern into the program to compensate for hubs and wheels. Chris, maybe you just weren't sticking your tongue out the right side of your mouth to line of the holes. LOL
MicroNitro Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 I bet I messed up not Chris, If the rotary table is off .005" that will make the bolt circle off by .010" so it is easy to mess up. I try to make all the parts that fit together with out removing and replacing the table but sometimes I can not. I picked .300 because that is 4.80" 1:1 in 1:16 scale witch is kinda in the mid of what is used on race cars so should look right. On the plus side Chris will have some extra parts for his next drag race project.

I will make a new pair of witch ever would be less work for you. Man I am sorry! I have you pulleys turned but need to set up the mill to do the cogs. Jim it looked to me that the hubs were off just a smidge. So I ended up trying to compensate on the rims by opening up the hole for the stud to the next size bigger to the next size to get them to fit the pattern. The threads ob the studs were tigt and rubbing the inside of the rims. I am afraid if i go any bigger that the nut wont cover the.whole completely. So what I would like to do is order another set of rims as well. Since I am putting so much work into this build I would prefer to buy another set of rear rims and have it correct. I will be able to use hubs i have tapped on my 1/16th scale FED and will be able to use the rears i have on another build down the road. So the parts wont go to waste. I am just wanting things for this funny car to be perfect as to why i am not minding buying an extra set. That is awesome to hear about the pulleys. Looking forward to seeing how they will turn out with the cogs in them. I know you will knock them out of the park. I havent had time to design the other parts we have talked about but hoping i may find a little time this week to start on them. Jim i can't thank you enough for the work i am having you do for this build. It is much appreciaed. Send me an email letting me know what i owe you for these items and i will get money over to you. Thanks again
MicroNitro Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 I will make new parts this week at no charge and get them to you.

I am more than happy to pay you for them, gotta cover your time somehow. I really appreciate you redoing them for me. I was planning on posting pics of the hubs later and will try to get a straight on shot of the holes

Jim not only do you impress me with your work but also with your customer service in helping out the small guy with concerns with your end product! This is what keeps the regular repeat customers coming back and new ones waiting in the wings to have you create parts for them. Sorry Chris, I just had to commend Jim for everything he has done.
