TooOld Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 You are correct if it had a stock brake system . This one uses two Tilton 5/8" master cylinders mounted above the pedals . A single line goes from one cylinder forward to a tee . Another line goes from the other cylinder , thru the tunnel , to a tee in the rear . You are correct about running the brake line under the steering box . . . That mechanic is no longer employed here ! That said , Thanks for the info on a stock setup . I've never seen one before and was just winging it on this build . I'll be sure to do it correctly on my next one . BOB.

Re-site fixing correctly to the top beam and the steering arm like so........... If you see any other blindingly obvious mistakes please don't hesitate to tell me. I think the 1 or 2 grey cells I have left are on the blink!

I've bought an aftermarket distributor so have wired that in and added the pulleys. the third pic shows the engine canted back so that you can see the colour of the fanshroud................... I've just put the exhaust pipework on so waiting for that to dry. Then I may look at scratchbuilding a muffler or may fit the kit supplied one.

PatW Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 TooOld, the distributor is from an ebay guy in the UK, but you should be able to get them easier in the USA, cause they come from Morgan Automotive Detail (madmodeling.com) Westland Michigan. They have all sizes all colours 4, 6 & 8 cylinder and lots more.
PatW Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 Just four more pics, I saw the kit muffler to be a bit small and weedy so I scratchbuilt an new road muffler from alloy and plastic tube and some heat bending................ Ans I fitted the seats and grey carpet (did it come with the kit?) and popped the body on to have a look............... See you soon...........
TooOld Posted April 21, 2012 Posted April 21, 2012 It's looking good Pat ! I sure like the colors . When you get around to the headlights , drill a small hole in the base and another in the body . Then mount them with a small diameter styrene rod or a pin or something . Sure makes life easier as they can be a real pain to glue on ! BOB.

I don't know yet, I'm just about to go through my picture files to see any real ones I'd like to copy. David G. Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 (edited) There are a whole lot excellent builds here. I'm impressed by the variety of interpretations arising from such a simple kit. Now it's time to add mine to the mix. Minor detail added... I replaced the plastic nerf bars with chrome paperclip wire and reworked the muffler. The decals are from the Revell VW Bus kit. I replaced that horrible rear seat with some "plywood". I've actually seen this done in a couple of 1:1's. Dash detail with one of those wooden steering wheels so popular in the 60's &70's. I still need to add the license plate and figure out some way to clear coat the decals (advise?), but essentially, it's done. Thanks for looking, David G. Edited December 28, 2012 by David G.
TooOld Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 The yellow paint is cool and the Flower power decals are perfect for this kit ! I like your detailing and the contrasting colors . You can clear a finished model by using Pledge Floor Care with Future Shine . Use a small foam brush ( 1 " ) and brush it lightly on the model . It is very thin and as it dries it evens out for a beautiful shine ! I've done this on two older builds and it really turns out nice . Give it a try . BOB.

VW Dave Posted April 27, 2012 Posted April 27, 2012 Here's a little 'sneak peek' of the Manx body I painted for George53.....I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with it now The headlights are the smaller ones from any of the Revell '32 Ford street rod kits; they're much nicer than the AMT kit-supplied ones, and they scale out to a nice 7" light....just like the Deitz/Cibie units on my real Manx
