58 Impala Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 (edited) I was thinking of buying The Dremel Stylus cordless tool. Do any of you on MCM forum have one? Do you like it? Is it worth the money? I have a Dremel regular corded variable speed as well as the old chargable battery version. Any opinions would be welcome. Thanks. Edited May 8, 2011 by 58 Impala
Foxer Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 I have a Stylus that I got about 3 years ago to replace my corded one. I can't say enough about this model .. it had the advantage, like the normal battery one, of being able to go at a much lower speed than the corded one, therefore rotating at a speed more compatible to plastics. The gun shaped handle is very comfortable to use and it can be used in a number of positions depending on the task at hand. Maybe the best part is the stand which keeps the battery fully charged at all times. I love this model and my corded Dremel hasn't come back to any use since getting it.
Zoom Zoom Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 I have three Dremel tools; the original corded unit, a big/heavy cordless unit, and the Stylus. The Stylus is hands-down my favorite. Easy to maneuver, lots of torque, wide speed range, fairly lightweight, excellent ergonomics. The big cordless one is great, but a bit clumsy to handle. I had asked for a cordless Dremel, expecting the smaller one that was available at the time, long before the Stylus came out. The others now only get used as backup...I'm not one to keep them on the chargers all the time, I only recharge when they run out of juice. I've used the corded unit perhaps twice in the past couple years
crazyjim Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Doesn't the Stylus come with a screwgun too? Looks like a nice tool.
58 Impala Posted May 8, 2011 Author Posted May 8, 2011 Thanks for the input, I think I'll pick one up this week.
crazyjim Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 (edited) I don't know if it would fit, but the Dremel twist chuck is available for their other rotary tools. I put them on the corded and cordless I have and love them. Don't need to use that little wrench anymore. What's the difference between the 1100-01 and 1100-N/25? Edited May 8, 2011 by crazyjim
58 Impala Posted May 8, 2011 Author Posted May 8, 2011 What's the difference between the 1100-01 and 1100-N/25? From what I've researched, the difference seems to be the accessories (bits and cutters).

I have the bits & cutters I need and I have to go to Lowe's tomorrow. Maybe I'll check it out and see which one is cheaper (plus the 10% Veterans discount).

That fits the Stylus ... have it on mine.
ra7c7er Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 This tool sounds almost like a must have. I think I will put it on my list.
Longbox55 Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 I have one, very nice peice of equipment to have. No so bulky when you're doing tight/fine detail work. Got mine off the clearance rack at the local Menards for about $25.
fumi Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Mine was great, until the battery died within several months of purchase. There was an issue with the charger, at least for the 7.2V version. While the instruction says you should always charge it when it is not in use, in reality the charger does not cut out when the battery is fully charged but will always charge it at a fix amount of time. If you follow the instruction it will always overcharge your battery and greatly shorten its life.
Boreham Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) nice product with a low rev range.. we use it daily at work and gives great control. On recent inquiry about purchasing a replacement (due to issue with the battery charge and spindle remianing on at top speed...with the off button not working..) we were told the item is no longer been make and when stocks run out there gone... this is the case in Europe. 58 Impala Posted May 11, 2011 Author Posted May 11, 2011 Bought mine yesterday, nice tool, well balanced. I've had good luck with all my Dremel tools. Hopefully this one will be no different.
crazyjim Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 I went to Lowe's on Monday to purchase one and they had the whole Dremel area torn down and in carts. Looks like they were doing a new display. I didn't get a stylus. Dremel returned my email about the difference between the 1100-01 and 1100-N/25 - N stands for no accessories and also said there's a new and improved model available.
robertw Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 I love mine! Only charge it up about once a year. I'm not even sure where my old dremel is since it's been so long since I used it.
Dr. Cranky Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 The Stylus is the way to go. I love mine, and it's always the perfect tool for doing rust-throughs, like you see here:
