crazyjim Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 I've tried and tried to make throttle linkage. I have pins, small wire, a bunch of Plastrut, but still can't get it. Any and all help would really be appreciated - especially if there's pics! Thanks.

crazyjim Posted May 9, 2011 Author Posted May 9, 2011 Thanks for the pic, Gramps. I can't get even close to that - yet.
Mark Brown Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Making realistic throttle linkage is very fiddly stuff - patience and good reference photos are your true friends. I'd recommend ordering a couple of photoetch kits (Model Car Garage and Detail Master both make good ones) and you'll want to flatten out a beer or soda can to use for making bracketry. You'll need files, sandpaper and a selection of tiny drills to work with these materials.
crazyjim Posted May 12, 2011 Author Posted May 12, 2011 Thanks for the reply, Mark. I would never have thought about beer/pop cans as a source. I have all the other items you mentioned. I need to keep trying.
cruz Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 The Model Car Garage has a really neat set, I purchased the Stromberg Carb set-up from them and used it on my Merc! Try them out, a little tedious to work with but the results are quite cool!!! Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
crazyjim Posted May 12, 2011 Author Posted May 12, 2011 Thank you for the replies. Those engine pics are unreal! I printed everything posted so far in an attempt to create linkage.
RodneyBad Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Awesome looking Engines Mr (The Mad Engine Builder) Zinn... Each one Unique
pharr7226 Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 A little aluminum, wire, and wire insulation helps to create a convincing throttle linkage.
LAone Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 im right there with you bro. it's tedious for sure! i tried and failed at making one for my beetle with dual down drafts. the hardest part for me was gluing PE with the needle and then the needle to the plastic. patience is def required. this thread is very helpful. im going to give it another shot.
crazyjim Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 You ain't kiddin', Luis. Thank to the members who have posted the helpful pics. I've been trying but still can't get it.
MrObsessive Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I'm a big believer in making do with whatcha got-----as well as adding with some PE if needed. Here's a few of mine............... The Ferrari engine (from Norm Veber) on top came with parts to build the linkage, but I remember adding some of my own as well. Also, getting an actual shop manual helps in a lot of cases.............a little "obsessive" for sure, but it helps get the job done.
crazyjim Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 Thanks for the pics, Bill. Yours along with the others are extremely helpful and I'll keep on trying.
