One of my favorites. A car so ugly, it's gorgeous! This is the Promolite 2000 resin kit, and aside from the Torq Thrusts (AMT 63 Vette) and AMT Firestone Wide Ovals, it's box stock, with lowered stance and shaved scripts. I usually hate red cars, but I thought pearl white/pearl red would look good on this one.

I have to agree ... for some reason that front end treatment lures me in every time!

The paint on this really makes it stand out.

Nope Chuck, the color IS nice, but nope, that front end is just too homely to call anything but ugly. Pretty colors though. Nice wheels too! All in all an ugly kid with nice clothes on!!!:D :D :D :D

The front end, at least to me, is the only unfortunate feature stylistically, and I don't even find that that offesnive.

Chuck- great job on this. The red/white looks great on this one.

I don't think the styling is ugly, just quirky in that "Virgil Exner: man from space" way... An Aztec is ugly.

Nice job, the color scheme looks cool.

The '61 Plymo is like most of Exner's designs ~ an acquired taste.

But Tom Coolidge's PromoLite 2000 resins are ALWAYS exquisite!

Great build!

I have to agree, that is one butt ugly car, BUT, you did a great job with it.

I love the retro futurism and it's as good as any from the era. It surely can't be uglier than this... This just makes no sense.

Spectacular build. All your choices feel good. Well done.

Great looking model!

I personally love the old Dodge and Plymouths of that era! They just kind of grow on ya over the years.(no not like a fungus either!:D )

There was a farmer here owned one he bought new. The wife's cousin worked at AAMCO and they hated to see him drive up or the car be towed in! The company actually tried and buy it off him at one point! He had the transe fixed and bought the lifetime warranty. The thing is the original warranties they used had no disclamers or exemptions. Just a straight up garantee of repair or replacement if it ever went out. It did. 6 TIMES!!! in 10 years!:D

When it had 100,000 miles on it he had retired it as the family car and it became a work horse on the farm. Seen it out in the field hauling maybe 15-20 hay bales in and on it. Or stuffed so full of feed or seed bags it looked like a lowrider! It had almost 200,000 on the clock when the subframe rusted out and he had to retire it to the bone yard. (behind the barn)

Back in 1962 I became a city police officer. My first assigned unit was a 62 Dart. It was as ugly as they get, BUT, what a great road car. It was quick, stable, really maneuverable and above all comfortable.

I really like this build Chuck! Great color combo! You know you've succeeded when you can take an otherwise ugly car and turn it into something that looks this nice. Great work!

I learned to drive ... and drive and drive ... in a '62 Dart that my parents had. Loved that car! Still do.

I could tell about the time I "borrowed" the family car for a Saturday night cruise. Went to a buddy's house and slipped on a pair of cheater slicks, then beat feet to the local dragstrip. After an evening of campaigning, we carried home the Pure Stock eliminator trophy. My mother never figured it out, but I'm pretty certain my dad had a strong suspicion! Especially when he caught me with the trophy a couple of years later. B)

Their car is lonnnnng gone, but I'd dearly love to find an affordable '62 Dart 1:1 to own, pamper, and drive again. They were great cars.

But, like Studebakers, Hudsons, and various occasional experiments by more mainstream brands over the years ... they were just a little too out there and a little too far ahead of their time. People in '62 just weren't accepting of downsizing or radical styling ... put both in one package, and it's no wonder the '62 Dart and '62 Plymouth weren't considered successful.

Ah, well ... I still have (several) plastic versions to build and enjoy. That's why this hobby exists!

A great build on this one!, Personally, never cared for the 61 Plymouths, but never thought the 62 Plymouths were too bad, the 62 Dodge wasn't bad from the rear but never liked the front or the confusing sculpting on the sides...that said, any of 'em look a heck of a lot better then that horrific Nissan Juke! That thing is uglier than an Aztek, 61 Plymouth, or 58 Edsel!!!
