Found this by surprise tonight when in Wal Mart to get some coolant and decided to peruse the Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars.

Yes...this is a $9.97 diecast by Motormax...go away if that offends you

I doubt we'll ever see a plastic kit of this...and if so, it will cost more and probably won't be that much better. This thing is pretty nice; doors fit nicely, wheels steer very nicely, detail level is pretty good. Paint is okay....for a $10 diecast. I think mine is missing one spotlight.

I had no idea this model was coming out. I recently saw a 1/24 SHO by Greenlight for nearly $30 and it was a mess, no way I was going to buy it...nothing fit, panels didn't match, terrible treatment of door pillars.

I saw two other variations of this Taurus; one was a generic white highway patrol unit and the other was a black and white generic local municipal unit. They both had very low-profile roof light bars w/siren. I got this one because it looks so cool all in black.

Perhaps Wal Mart got the first run...I was on a couple diecast sites this weekend, nothing to indicate this was coming.

I'd say that is what you cal Black on Black!

And, thanks to Dave Lindsay for posting that shot ... that's a Police graphic worth doing!

One of the models at the store was the graphic that Dave showed. Very cool! I decided to just get the completely unmarked version. Hoping to find one in white or another color as their production goes on, similar to what they've done w/their Crown Vic...Motormax new Crown Vic is the best of all by quite a margin vs. all the other diecast CV's done previously.

Now I have to set foot in a Walmart, and dodge all those elderly people using shopping carts as walkers and rampaging rugrats. A couple of these might make it worth the trauma, though. :)

Take your camera and maybe you'll find some "People of Walmart" material that you can post on that website :(

I don't suggest spending much time combing all the local stores for these models, I believe I got really lucky finding this at an old-school supercenter out in the country. They also had a ton of new Matchbox and Hotwheels...the Wally's closer to home never have anything new. I came home w/four new Matchbox cars; Fisker Karma, 68 Mustang California Special, Caddy CTS Coupe, and 70-ish Firebird Formula. The cashier asked if I was going to "play cars" when I got home

I'm pretty sure websites will have these models soon. Motormax stuff isn't hard to find if you know where to look...I suspect these models have hit Walmart only this week.

Oh, there's an all-new supercenter being built in Alma... can't wait for it.

The CVPIs are decent, aside from the undersized chevy wheels, oversized fancy wheels, and marauder front bumper lol. But the bodies are better than CMW ones. These SHO interceptors look loads better so far. We have 4 super wal marts within a 10 mile radius and none have these yet. They've all seemed to have given up on any new toy stock other than movie property action figures that aren't moving since the 1st wave of Iron Man figs:/ I hope Jeff at policacarmodels gets these soon:)

The Marauder front bumper gives me hope that they might do a Marauder eventually. One of my friends has a real one and has modified the MM CV into a reasonable facsimile of his car.

I see a few issues w/the Taurus; the rear door glass needs a vertical trim strip (though the clean look on the model w/o it is nice), the taillight mounting tab is humongous, wish the black glass surround was inside and not outside.

What is immensely cool is this is something I don't think we've ever had...a brand-new police car model....not only is it of a brand-new car, not a used one, but I don't think they're even for sale yet as police cars. And Ford recently showed a restyled Taurus, including the Interceptor, w/a new grille and fascia. What is on this model may not actually be used on the real car when it comes out.

Think of all the (plastic) police car models that have come out, since the Revell/Monogram '92 Caprice...none of them have been current cars. The Lindberg '97 came out right when Ford went w/the Grand Marquis-style roof in '98. Revell's FWD Impala kit came out after they had restyled the Impala. Lindberg's Charger comes out when the Charger got a whole new body.

It would be cool if Motormax did an SHO off of this. The Greenlight model isn't worth bothering with, way too many fit and quality issues for a $30 model.

I have a die cast pull-back toy (yep, toy) by Kinsmart depicting a '98-style Police Interceptor, which I'm converting into an '03 Marauder.

As for this new die cast Taurus-based PI? Well... I'm wondering how hard it would be to convert to a Lincoln MKS... ;)

Sweet looking squad. How does this match up size wise to Lindbergs Charger? I know the real Taurus is smaller than the Charger squad and the Chevy

is even smaller.....

The Taurus is 202.9" long vs. 200.1" for the Charger.

The Taurus is 76.2" wide vs. 74.5" for the Charger.

The Taurus wheelbase is 112.9" vs. 120" for the Charger.

Comparing the two models, they look nearly identical in overall size and mass. The Interceptor is slightly longer, slightly wider, shorter wheelbase and longer overhangs. I'm glad the Lindberg Charger is 1/24 scale so they can be displayed together w/o a scale discrepancy.

The Holden/Chevrolet Caprice has a 118.5" wheelbase.

OOOOOOOO....Thanks for posting that!! I'll have to check out our local Wally Worlds!!

Great to see a new police car in scale before seeing the real ones on the street! Would still love to see a Crown Vic in plastic, as our local law enforcement bought a wack of them before they stopped building them, so we'll have them for a while.
