DRG Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I will never argue that I don't have a stash of models that compares to some of you. But this will keep me busy for quite some time. The seven boxes on the left of the upper shelf are started and put back into the box for one reason or another. The others are all unopened at this point. I have two more coming from Deans Hobby Shop. I'm happy.
DRG Posted June 6, 2011 Author Posted June 6, 2011 Those with the red X have been started and put back for one reason or another.
disabled modeler Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 You got some there that should inspire you to build but we all have a personal stash tucked away...its just some have stashed them longer than others and have a few more. I have a large personal stash of my dads old models(most needing parts and or repairs)but someday they will be restored/repaired.
niteowl7710 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 This is how it starts...all innocent and small. But a few kits here, and a few kits there, and you'll have outgrown that shelving unit...and need another one....and it will look so empty...so a few more kits here, and a kit there...

thesnake87 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 thats how my stash looked like when i was 15 lol You had me beat... lol I have 3. But I plan on slowly building up. This hobby is a lot cheaper that collecting hockey cards that's for sure, and more fun
whale392 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Much easier to manage than the 1200 I have, Donald! Looks like a fair amount of build time you have on those shelves.........strangely I find myself envying the minute scale of your stash.
Dragracer Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I have 31 sitting in my room right now, about 2 are started & waiting to be finished, 1 is in the process of being built now, I have about 4-5 boxes full in a storage shed here in Tucson & about 8-9 boxes in a storage shed in Fl.
crazyjim Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Nice stash of kits, Don. That'll keep you busy. Yo Dragracer - would you like me to go get those 8-9 boxes of kits you have in FLA? I wouldn't even charge you for the gas.
whale392 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 While you're at it Jim, stop by St.Cloud and pick up the 14 paper towel boxes I have sitting in dads garage!
crazyjim Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Not a problem, Brad. Just get me the address. I might have to hook up the trailer and drag it along for all these boxes. Where will I store all my new kits? I'll find room for them.
disabled modeler Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Yep...it doesn't take long to build up a good stash of model kits or a collection. Other than for storage issues that might come up if one has a large stash, the good thing is you always have something to pass the time which since my accident I have an abundance of. If one enjoys what their doing and depending on the amount of time one has to pass a large stash can be a good thing. Me I usually build about 2 to 3 a week taking my time with them but I also have the time too. Some special builds do take a lot more time...restorations,conversions,modifying,detailing,etc. but out of the box builds seem pretty quick for me beings I am normally a factory stock builder but do build others as well.
crazyjim Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Chicago is a bit of of my way, Lownslow. But if you ship them back to FLA, I'll gladly pick them when I go to get all the kits. If you can't, I have some friends in West Chicago and St. Charles that would probably pick them up for me.
Rob Hall Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I have about 30 unbuilts here at home in Phoenix...and 100 12x12x16 packing boxes in my Colorado Springs storage unit, 75 in my Denver storage unit, 10 in my Phoenix storage unit...each packing box has 10-12 kits. I plan to consolidate everything in one place in another state eventually.
niteowl7710 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 (edited) So long as you have a room, there are always cheap plastic shelving! Edited June 6, 2011 by niteowl7710
Lownslow Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 So long as you have a room, there are always cheap plastic shelving! i see you has a bugatti willing to let that go?
bandit1 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 So long as you have a room, there are always cheap plastic shelving! did you ever count how many kits are in da' stash of yours niteowl? i counted "roughly" about 150 kits in da' stash!
Nick Winter Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Very Nice Stash Donald, I started out last spring with 5 unbuilts currently, infact as of Today I have 50, and 1 on the way. you tend to accumulate, especially when you are a slow builder but still buy stuff Nick
niteowl7710 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 did you ever count how many kits are in da' stash of yours niteowl? i counted "roughly" about 150 kits in da' stash! Did you count these? ...let's see here...no you can't has a Viper, and I found the Bugatti body is pretty warped when I got it out of storage last year. I haven't really examined it to see how fixable it is... The vast majority of my stash (with the exception of about 50-60 of the newest kits, and the '80's Monogram/Revell kits that I've purchased in the past year) is carried out of storage that I purchased before 1998. Once I started actually building half-way decent results in my late teens/early 20's, combined with having a job and disposable income, I was purchasing faster than I could build them. I just didn't liquidate everything like most people do, and I'm happy that I still have everything, and it would cost a small fortune to rebuild "the wall" from scratch.
highway Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 This is how it starts...all innocent and small. But a few kits here, and a few kits there, and you'll have outgrown that shelving unit...and need another one....and it will look so empty...so a few more kits here, and a kit there... James is so right!! After I lost my original collection in a fire in 1997, I started rebuilding by the time I met my fiancee in 2001, I had just about the number of kits you have now, Don. When we moved out of her mom and dad's basement in 2004 and I had more available income to spend on my plastic passion, it exploded!! Here's a few pics of my collection, and it all started with the three shelf bookcase that has the 1/64 scale diecast trucks on top of it! And another more recent pics, after I added the three shelf bookcase with the helicopter sticking out of it, and there are kits stacked 5 high on top it, too! By the way, since that pic was taken, the nice path to my bench has disappeared, it's getting clogged off with even more kits!! Also, before anyone asks, yes, the two cabinets in the hutch as well as the entire bottom of the old TV stand that makes the left hand side of my desk IS filled with kits also!!!
thesnake87 Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Wow... This just shows how much I need a job, I don't think my parents will buy me every kit I want to build, or any kit, all that much O.o lol It's nice I have my closet in the basement already "outfitted" for model stuff in a sense. I put 2 shelves up a couple months ago that I've been using for my scenery/diorama stuff. Once I get a better desk/table like those heavy duty plastic folding ones I'll move all my stuff from my paint booth in the garage to my basement and leave the booth for spray painting/dremel use. I have a desk in the garage... But I don't like having mice run by my feet lol Awesome stashes guys, you make a 16 year old jealous but at the same time aspire to strive. Even if it's just a stash lol
