Drake69 Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 Looking at the diagram on the sheet (no way to photocopy it at this time...), the rear of the car is at the top left in the pic, then the rear panel lower to the right with the arrows pointing to the car, then the tail lights lower to the right with arrows pointing to the panel. So, when you look at it, it's indicating the tail lights go on the outside of the panel, then the panel goes into the car, exactly how I did it. In no way does it show as being reversed, like the tail lights inbetween the car and the panel, with arrows pointing to the panel for mounting. I don't know if I have an older copy of the instruction sheet or not, but I follow directions on these models religiously. That should teach me to listen to printed instructions...

Drake69 Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 And, just so people won't think I'm losing my mind.... Now, what do you guys get from this? And for fun... Here is my work when I was young, done the first year the MPC model came out. Dad helped me with the decals...
Drake69 Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 1969 Instructions: That's the Daytona instructions....
Harry P. Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I see what you did wrong. The lenses DO mount from the outside, but you had them reversed (back side was facing out!)
Drake69 Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 This is a pretty good example of what Testors Clear Coats do to a model car years after being put on. The layers of dust don't help either....
Drake69 Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 I see what you did wrong. The lenses DO mount from the outside, but you had them reversed (back side was facing out!) There is NO WAY POSSIBLE those tails can go in backwards from that direction. Look how big they are from the inside (from my previous pic...) See? You couldn't squeeze them in backwards if you had an elephant and 20 jars of vaseline to help. The only correct way to mount those lenses is from behind the panel.
Drake69 Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 The other Charger I had built is an MPC Charger from the 80's. The only other Charger I have built since is the Round 2 Charger Daytona. Again, not the Revell one. Never mind. I don't see any way I'm going to convince any of you that I was trying to follow mistaken instructions TO THE LETTER (in this case, pictures). Unless you actually have this '69 Charger REVELL kit you won't understand.
Scale-Master Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I don't see any way I'm going to convince any of you that I was trying to follow mistaken instructions TO THE LETTER (in this case, pictures). Unless you actually have this '69 Charger REVELL kit you won't understand. Just an observation that if the instructions were followed to the letter the clear red parts would have been attached with the concave parts facing outward. Test fitting and some logic can go a long way in modeling...
Drake69 Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 Sorry guys, was just feeling a little exasperated over the whole thing. I did do an all-callout for assistance the moment I ran into trouble though... Okay. For those of you that have built any of the Revell '69 Chargers, I have a question... How in the bloody blue BLAZES did you get the taillights to mount properly?!?!?! I have actually taken an Xacto knife and tried to cut out the inside of the panel where the tails go in and I still can't get them to fit comfortably. I had to repaint the semi-gloss black part of the rear, and have to let it dry now before trying again. I have half a mind to cut the red plastic backing on the taillights and glue them directly to the panel. Assistance? This was, of course, yesterday at like 2AM in the morning, so no one caught my callout. Had I checked more photos and stuff I would've plainly seen that the lights were wrong in every aspect, and then corrected them accordingly. As I am learning more and more about the muscle cars period, I'll rely less and less on instructions and more on research and instinct.
sjordan2 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 Futurabat, one of the best pieces of wisdom I've ever seen here.
dane1963 Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 The General Lee in the pilot episode had side marker lights. When they built the series cars they eliminated the side marker lights. Dane
Drake69 Posted August 6, 2011 Author Posted August 6, 2011 Thanks for the support and comments! Okay. At this stage I'm waiting on a few special goodies to complete my model. I have a resin CB antenna (patterned from season 1) and a more accurate resin pushbar coming from MoparmanJim soon, and I've done everything else like the side mirror, fog lamps, and door handles. Will post up a few more pics soon.
Romell R Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 There are two things you never see me do, the first is wear a pink polo shirt ......the second is build a General Lee nothing personal just a promise I made myself. that said I did enjoy watching you build this one. excellent job keep it up!

Drake69 Posted August 6, 2011 Author Posted August 6, 2011 Thanks everyone! Last set of pix before I get and put on the pushbar and antenna (both are resin pieces that are much better than I can fashion...)...
crowe-t Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 WOW, Allen your General Lee is looking great! Sorry, I just found this thread or I would have posted earlier. I have an MPC General Lee from the 80's that looks like yours. I just applied the decals on the orange plastic body. It's currently in storage so I don't have any pictures. BTW, Is Pactra a flat or gloss? I thought Pactra was just for R/C car bodies. Mike.

The glossiness of the car is from multiple dips in Future. Pactra is made for R/C bodies but can be used on models so long as the primer that is used with it (or NO primer can be used...) doesn't have a reaction to it. Duplicolor worked fine in this case.
Jonathan Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Impressive General Lee! I realize this is an old thread, but I wanted to ask....where would one get Hazzardous Decals? I searched the web, and the only website I could find appears off-line. thanks!
fantacmet Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Love the idea of using the 68 body, that ought to work well. Depending on which general lee you are building the MPC pushbar is correct, there were three of them. Source: The guys in charge of building the real deal for the show. Competition Orange is indeed one of the colors they used in the show and is the color that was theoretically on all of them but they used quite a few, but all were called competition orange. Source: Same as above, plus prop house records and build sheets. I'm not sure if there are any resin wheels out there for this. I truly hope so as the MPC wheels are well yeah. Lookin good so far though. Can't wait to see it done. I'm building the big one right now.
