I know the engine compartment and front chassis is the same as the body color on a '69 Dodge Charger.

Is the rest of the chassis usually the body color as well?

I've also read that the bottom of the floor pan is gray primer with body color over spray on the sides.

Did the bottom of the floor pan usually have undercoating or was that a dealer option?

Back in the '60's most Mopars' undersides were gray with slight overspray on the sides. IIRC, the undercoating was a dealer installed option--------most of your cars that ended up in the south or out west (out of the rust belt) weren't undercoated.

Even at that, it was done kinda spotty--------a patch sprayed here and there on the floorboards and around the wheelwells.

Here's my Dodge Daytona I built years ago where I tried to replicate how the underside would have looked in a none undercoated car. In hindsight, the overspray might be a scooch too heavy------but you get the idea. :)

Hope this helps!

Thanks guys for the information and pictures. I'm planning a Revell General Lee build soon. Yes I know everyone has built this before but I only built the MPC kit years ago and now want a more accurate General Lee. I want to build it as if it came orange from the factory.

Bill, I just looked at the pictures of your '69 Charger Daytona in your attached album. You did a beautiful job on the door jams.

I din't know there is a Charger left which isn't GL'ed.

Greg's is very nice ... and I don't think you have to worry about EVER seeing it in orange ~ any hue or shade of orange ~ EVER!

(Emoticon indicating ... well, you know what here.)

I didn't write anything to the contrary. I bet it will never be jumped on purpose either.

Brings up two funny items. 1) First thing I tell people at shows is how hard it was to get the flag off the roof.( smilie emoticon here) 2) My son inherited his Grampas '89 Dodge Ram 150 truck when he was still in high school(smiling emoticon here). When he comes home after the first night out and I get a good look at the front end(grumpy dad emoticon here), or what's left of it, I had to ask: "you been running with those Duke boys again?"(emoticon with tongue hanging out here) He still has the truck and has been paying for that stunt ever since. He does keep it in immaculate condition.

Undercoating can be on the entire chassis and was sometimes applied at the factory. My real 1:1 car is a Coronet R/T, 1970 sold new in Texas, but the build sheet calls out a "Sound deadening"option. I believe that was undercoating on the entire underside of the car.

Usual restored, or over retored depending on how much paint you like, is the gray primer with oversprayed color.

Hey thanks for the info.
