Drago Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Hi guys... I was wondering if there is a site with a list of all Boyd Coddington´s famous cars.... Any tip? ... or we can start a nice list right here.. right now... What do you think?
mikemodeler Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 If there is a specific car you may be able to find some information on it but a complete catalog.....I don't think so. Like Double D mentioned, there wasn't much on his website back in the day and with the way people cycled in and out of his shops over the years, there were literally tons of cars built there.
Mike Kucaba Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 http://www.boydcoddington.com/Gallery/FeaturedCars/tabid/62/Default.aspx http://www.boydcoddington.com/Gallery/tabid/63/Default.aspx http://www.google.com/search?q=boyd+coddington+cars&hl=en&prmd=ivnso&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=cXFJTrHxKOXUiAKh38nABg Here's three sites from a google search.
Greg Myers Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Why Google when you can come here and some one else will do it for you, and you can get a little debate as to whether it can be done?
Dr. Cranky Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 I watched the show for a couple of seasons, and then it got to painful to watch.
Mike Kucaba Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Well Greg it's simple. There are those that make it happen...and there are those that say WHA' HAPPENED!!
Chas SCR Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 What car are you looking for off the show, I have several build up pics of lots of his stuff from "Boydster 1,2 and 3" with all the changes to the 61 Impala that was done on the show. I also have stuff from the last two cars that came out of the shop from the "French Connection" Delahaye to the 29 Ford that was just sold at Barrett Jackson. I also have been working on the last car that a set of wheels was built for as 1 off doing Undsiputed 32 ford with Justin from Scotts Hot Rods. If there is some thing special you are looking for I may be albe to help.
Drago Posted August 16, 2011 Author Posted August 16, 2011 Why most of the time some guys here always deduces that a simple question is synonymous of laziness? Why do they always send us to Google? I already googled… so what??? Is it means that I´m prohibited to come here and start a nice conversation with guys that have the same hobby I do? Why so angry reaction when someone comes here and asks a question totally related to the main goal of the forum? I mean ... We are passionate about cars, don´t we? The question is in the correct forum, right? So what? Does it not occur to you that if I am a user of an virtual forum, I know the internet and I've searched in Google (or other site, whatever), but in the end, my preference is to discuss with friends (even virtual) on a subject that is of common interest? This is called affinity ... I will not discuss this with my boss at work or with the teacher of astrology (unless they are also enthusiasts, of course). If I'm writing here is because I like the ideas, criticisms and suggestions from here ... seems to me very obvious. I'm from Brazil; I'm a fan of cars. I see this forum as a great tool to interact. I do my research regularly in books and on the Internet, but chat with friend is fun as well (or even better). When we do a search like this, the results are actually many. You guys do have much more contact and info than I do… Boyd is American…Should I ask for this information in the Germany forum??? I know some of the Boyd ´s cars ... Aluma Coupe, Boydster, Smoothster, etc ... I want to build them and do a tribute to him. But I must decide and pick 3 of them.... I just want some help plus a nice chat ...ONLY THIS…. Is it ask too much? I really want to THANKS all people that are helping me… ----Chas SCR, As I said… I would like to make a tribute to Boyd with 3 cars… But the question is: which cars are more representative? I guess that Aluma Coupe and Boydster 2 are great to be in this project… What do you think? To maintain the yellow paint.. what about Vette or the Mustang with silver stripes? I really don´t know…See, is this kind of discussion that Google can’t provide…But you guys can!!! Thanks a lot!
torinobradley Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 There is another Boyd's car in kit form that many overlook. The Resin Testor's Fire Roadstered is very close or actually a model of Michael Anthony's 33 Ford built by Boyd. It is a curbside and a bit fiddly but builds up pretty decent. And don't forget the Chezoom. There's a few more if you go the resin route including Cadzilla IIRC.
Mike Kucaba Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 Hi Drago, I googled this as I was curious my self and I enjoyed looking at your posts. I have a lot of free time and No TELVISION so I don't mind doing this at all. I don't do it all the time and not for every subject if it doesn't pique my interest. My comment to Greg was meant as a joke/comical reply as I know him somewhat personally here in the heat ravaged desert !
Drago Posted August 16, 2011 Author Posted August 16, 2011 torinobradley, WOW!!! I didn´t know that this car is a Foose´s design and Boyd´s building!!! And guess what: I have this kit!!!! Great.... great tip!!!! Tks! Mike, please don´t take my msg personally... it was not directed towards to you. Quite the opposite: you helped me a lot. BTW, thanks for the praise. I would like to apologize to Greg if misunderstood you, but I'm also a adm of a plastic modeling forum in Brazil and I got bother when things does not flow well for nothing...
SuperStockAndy Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I can tell you that he made a ZZ Top Ford Coupe.
Chas SCR Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 For doing the boydster 1 or any of the boydster series cars would be a big project as they are not just putting a 32 together and painting and calling it what it is. For the easy ones to do a nice little thing you could do the Smoothster, 57 Chevy from AMT and yes this car was done in real life (Chubby 57) Chezoom is easy as it is in a kit. Aluma coupe... When you start getting off into the real 1 off stuff it's going to get real complicated and time in this. I have been working on a 1/8th scale Boydster 1 and just now got the frame rails right for it. (The body work is not even started) and thats 3yrs of work on and off this project. Also the 1/24th scale is very limited in using any thing from a kit wise with out scratch building every thing. You could do the zz top 33 ford, Any kit that is out in kit wise with out doing a lot of changing would be the easiest way of going on this. You could do the mustange or any of the cars like that. I do not know how much time you are wanting to put into the project or each car, Also I'm not sure on how advance your scratch building skills are as like I said a lot of the 1 off cars or the boydster seires comes a lot of that kind of work. For the fire roadster was a drawing up from Chip Foose but was not for Boyds work. It was for Bobby Alloway's car to start his string of 33 to 34 fords that he built.
Mike Kucaba Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Drago, I'd go for the Smoothster I built one and actually finished it LOL. It has a beautiful chassis with a few vague attachment points, but it would be nice to see what you would do with it. I'll get some pics of my build up later. I'd like to take another crack at this one,but so much on the plate and so little time.
MikeMc Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 (edited) I've got a few of "Boyds " kits...All the kits I remember were duds...I think this was the only finished one I have..the coupster, vanster, and smoothster all share the same horrors..warpage, fit, interior We do not even mention this '32.... VW Dave Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I can tell you that he made a ZZ Top Ford Coupe. If he did, it wasn't the original 'Eliminator' coupe...that was done by Don 'Buffy' Thelan(IIRC his shop was called 'Buffalo Motors')
Guest Johnny Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Why Google when you can come here and some one else will do it for you, and you can get a little debate as to whether it can be done? Google is a joke at times as it is filled with so much "######" that it is almost impossible to figure out just exactly what to type in. One wrong word and you have a bunch of garbage to go through that has nothing to do with what you are looking for! I have seen times when I spent hours looking for something only to come here or another site and have the answer in minutes because this is the place where the knowledge is and someone either knows the answer or just where to look! To asume some one is being lazy, well we all know what they say about the word assume! As for Boyd (God rest him) he would not have been as big a name had not have surrounded himself with great design people and sheet metal fabricators! Heard that one out of his own mouth one time at Troy's Shop years back! The first time Imet him he was a really likable guy, friendly and willing to talk! The next time was after his wheel business went belly up (after the big expanion failed) and he was sullen and bitter acting. Not friendly at all. Like he came across on the show.
MikeMc Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Google is only as good as the input.....vague questions will give unusual results. Specific detailed inquiries (correct order of facts) will result in great searches.
Guest Johnny Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Google is only as good as the input.....vague questions will give unusual results. Specific detailed inquiries (correct order of facts) will result in great searches. Yeah, if your lucky enough to stumble upon the correct sequence of wording! I hear people every day and I mean people who have used computers for years complain how bad it has gotten and how cluttered with useless and repetitious ###### that it take forever to find what they are looking for!
OldNYJim Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 Did anyone ever see @tim boyd and Boyd Coddington in the same room at the same time? ???

A companion piece would be Eddie VH's truck. Also done as a Testors kit. IIRC, I think it was called "Van Hauler" Edited May 25, 2020 by Oldcarfan27

Yikes.....someone is very misinformed on this one...... As to your direct question, yes a few fellow model car builders joined me in a trip to Boyd's original backyard shop in Stanton in early 1984.....including (I think) David Dale, Gary Gollehon (sp?), Jim Kampmann, and a few other names you might recognize....TIM Edited May 27, 2020 by tim boyd 1
