Dr. Cranky Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 (edited) It is obviously addictive, that's what I say. EYEGORE says: if you want to see some cool rust check out your nearest fire hydrant! Edited August 21, 2011 by Dr. Cranky
Darin Bastedo Posted August 21, 2011 Author Posted August 21, 2011 Hey harry, Since this has somewhat grown into an Under glass kind of thread should it be moved? I like that it has turned into a showcase of some of the better weathered builds on the forum.
VW Dave Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 one thing i often notice on weathered builds is that the story calls for a car that has been sitting in a barn for the last 32 years but somehow it has brand new tires on it It's entirely possible...In the name of safety and coolness, my friend Brian gave his oval Beetle a suspension & wheel/tire upgrade after he bought it as a 'barn fresh' car: And I drew heavily upon that car for inspiration when I did my '56:
novadose71 Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 A fellow member built this for a club diorama. He used some rusting agent from Hobby Lobby, and it keeps getting rustier and rustier on it's own...not sure what it was called but it's pretty cool stuff Another member built this for the diorama as well Here they are utilized on the dio I built this one using Rustall and pastel chalks ......as a circa 1962 future barn find....before the farmer put it in the barn and is still driving it daily. I had a blast watching it rust.
Nova-ss Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 WOW guys there is some amazing looking cars, trucks and other things here that are great to look at.its to bad a subject were you can put these models in.I've done a few my self but there sold so I can't now.but most things I build as daily driven cars, trucks and I build them all as still been driven not rusty not functioning any more....I don't build that kind but love looking at all this stuff.Thank you,Chris
BOSWELL891 Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 heres mine before i weathered the chrome and after i weathered the chrome and heres other pics
59 Impala Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 WOW Chris, that model T looks like it was left in a barn fer a real long time. And guys, that Nova looks GREAT in person, believe me, cause I have it in the hobby store that I go to in the show case. Thanks fer postin these Chris. Lt. Dayan. LOL
Dr. Cranky Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Very cool models. I can't get tired of looking at them all. Keep 'em coming.
Chuck Most Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Rob- LOVE that '36, but I gotta ask... where did you get the IH single axle tractor in the background?
bsoder Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 I think buildin' clean and shiny is way easier (for me) than convincing "weathering" but it is fun and a challenge..like anything...practice! it doesn't hurt that their are so many products available to help achieve it. here's a barnyard chevy' that's seen better days
Foxer Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 This is STUNNING! Where did you get the 1/25 scale web spinners? The look is fantastic!
Dr. Cranky Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Woah, that's one grimy engine. Love it. LONG LIVE RUST!
novadose71 Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Rob- LOVE that '36, but I gotta ask... where did you get the IH single axle tractor in the background? Thanks, that 36 was my first rusted build. The IH was built by a fellow club member, but it is an out of production resin cab of unknown (by us anyway) origin.
Chuck Most Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Thanks, that 36 was my first rusted build. The IH was built by a fellow club member, but it is an out of production resin cab of unknown (by us anyway) origin. Arrrgghh! I was afraid of that. Thanks for the info anyway.
Sixx Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 I just finished this one yesterday. Revell's 40 Ford coupe, built curbside. My story is the guy found it, put new tires & wheels on it and did some interior work, and is using it daily, I'm sticking to that story too, LOL!!!! Sixx comments welcomed!!
Chuck Most Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Sweet '40= there used to be a '46 Chevy coupe in my area with a strangely-similar patina pattern on it.
Sixx Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 Thanks Chuck, thats actually my first weathering job! Oh...I copied that chevy...not, LOL!!
