Jeff Johnston Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Its actually a 64 1/2 that I will try to convert into a 66 GT using the grille from the 66 Shelby & GT lights from the 67. It'll be painted Emberglo.
Dr. Cranky Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Oh, I'm liking this so far . . . please take your vitamins and keep it going.
oldscool Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Nice work on the trunk lid and doors. gus
Jeff Johnston Posted September 17, 2011 Author Posted September 17, 2011 Thanks Guys. I put this on temporary hold while I tried to complete a 78 Trans am for a local show tomorrow..which it looks like I will finish today. Back on this one starting tomorrow
Jeff Johnston Posted October 16, 2011 Author Posted October 16, 2011 (edited) I have a coat of primer on this and all the door jambs built. I have top re-prime a few places that burned through with my primer sanding. Later today I hope to shoot a couple coats of 1966 Ford Emberglo paint. Edited October 16, 2011 by Jeff Johnston
mrmike Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 This is great project you have going, Jeff! If I may make a suggestion...remove the bumper guards and fill the holes in the front valance panel. Where the holes are in the rear valance panel, drill out the hole to fit an exhaust tip. Apply a strip of foil around the opening for the chrome bezel. Keep up the good work, Jeff!
W-409 Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Great work so far. I would like to build '64 ½ Mustang, I think, '70 Mustangs, for example are seen very often, and '64½ is my favorite year model. But anyway. your project looks very good, that trunk lind looks good, and great to see you've opened the doors too. This is really interesting conversion, I'm watching this one. Keep us posted.
Jeff Johnston Posted October 16, 2011 Author Posted October 16, 2011 ooh Mike... I am going to do that. Thanks for that suggestion.
Jeff Johnston Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 paint...next is to fix up the rear valance for the pipes and paint that.
Qwit Pushin Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Love it!! Great color choice, and I concur with the exhaust exit ports suggestion. I'll be checking in regularly to see your progress. Thanks for sharing.
tyrone Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 this is looking good, nice work on the door jambs and trunk lid,,, I'm tuned in....
Jeff Johnston Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 some more progress on paint and interior
Jeff Johnston Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 You might want to flip your valve covers around though. They're upside down. AAARGH lol. Thanks... I never even noticed that...
Nick Notarangelo Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 AAARGH lol. Thanks... I never even noticed that... Don't worry we've all have done that some point in our lives.
charlie8575 Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 I do like this, Jeff. Very pretty color and interior combination. Did you use the exterior paint for the seats as well? Charlie Larkin
Jeff Johnston Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 Charlie yes its the same paint. I left it flat and will try to sheen it up a bit with some 80-00 polishing cloth to make it look like vinyl, and do tan flocking on the floor.
Jeff Johnston Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 (edited) some more progress. Dash...still need to touch up the steering wheel (black out the holed, etc) and the radio. I made the pedals from bent bobbie pins and photo etch pedal parts. I did the exhaust holes in the rear valance as Mike suggested. Edited November 7, 2011 by Jeff Johnston
Rick Schmidt Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Looks great so far Jeff. I wanna add before ya get too far don't forget to change the trim piec in the cove behind the door. It was different form 64 to 66.
jaymcminn Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 You can't go wrong with Emberglo on a '66. Very pretty.
Jeff Johnston Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 Rick indeed it was. I have been scanning photos and I think (and I may be wrong) the GT had no cove trim. I was planning not to have trim at all thinking the GT would not have had it. Maybe I should do some more research
MrObsessive Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Very nice work on those doors Jeff! You would be right about the trim-------every '66 GT I've ever seen did not have the cove chrome streaks.
Jeff Johnston Posted November 8, 2011 Author Posted November 8, 2011 Thanks Bill... We'll see how they open and close once I get it all together. I also see I failed to say in any of my posts (except the last one) that this will be a GT. I have the grille from the 66 GT 350 and the GT grill bar from the 67 AMT kit, which is 25th scale, but the piece fits perfectly on this 24th scale car.
