Darn it Virgil, it's not as if I don't have enough projects that aren't completed yet...Noooooooo.......you have to go and do the Area 51 build.

Don't know whether to thank you for the inspiration or just go off to the corner mumbling obscenities for making me start another. I've been wanting to try some of the techniques you've been kind enough to share with us so...............

anyway it's come to my attention that there have been some five and a half foot tall alien rat looking creatures spotted scurrying around area 51.

I would imagine they are trying to recover one of their downed crafts....oops, did I just blow a cover up?

Seemed to me your bow tie pickup was a little light pants when it comes to be able to prevent them from over running the base.

Let's have a little fun and see if any of you fellow modelers can guess the make, year and model of the body I'm using and what the engine is, based on these early mock up photos.........go ahead, take a guess.

Belt fed quad M-60 machine guns, and 2 rocket pods...that should take care of those pesky alien rats.....oh, my.

George was right about the power plant....it's a turbine that was commonly used in the UH-1 series helicopters, around 700 h.p.

You guys are pretty sharp...the body is one of those old plastic wheeled curb side models, a '57 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham. I'll stretch it a little to make more clearance for the monster truck tires.

Yes Jim, I'd forgotten how much stuff is available in small scale. Still trying to get used to working with the teeny parts though.

I'm also doing a couple of 1/25th alien rats in super sculpy. You know what they say....once you hit a certain age you start regressing.

Now that the technology allows and material costs have come down some, TDR is going to be coming out with some small scale R.P. goodies, so I'm trying to improve my small scale skills. Guess I'll have to set my wrenches and hammer aside for this stuff  .

Whacked out rides are the stuff of life. The bigger, badder and meaner it is, the more I like it.

BTW, your typing style is so similar to mine it's scary. I thought I was reading one of my own topics at first. Great job Don, bring it on !!

Well Joe.....guess you're not alone. 'Bout the only things I watch on the tube are the Sci-Fi & Speed channels.

I figure as long as I'm building an area 51 "Alien Rat Patrol Vehicle" to dispense with the nasty critters, I'd just as well give 'em something to focus on as they are being dispatched.

There's a smiley face on the front and rear differential covers.

So, coming or going that's the view they get.

Here's a sneak peek at one of the alien rats and his ????? weapon in progress....I'll post a few more shortly.

Don, I think you have officially CRANKYFRIED your brain! This looks very very interesting and cool.

You know what I am going to say, right?

That's right:

TAKE YOUR CRANKY VITAMINS AND KEEP IT GOING!

More EYE CANDY Please!

If the quad 50s and the rockets don't them, you can always blast them with the turbine exhaust, Don.

This kind of cool.

When are one of you guys going to build an Area 51 diorama?

Virgil, you're giving me far too much credit assuming I had a "brain" to start with, hee, hee.

It's interesting that you posted that "escapee" photo......good stuff bud! Would you mind if I borrowed a few ideas from it?

And yes.....I'm taking my Cranky meds.

Jim you're getting ahead of me as this will be a small dio by the time I'm done. I plan on using the face of a hanger for the backdrop and the sides will be chain link fence and barbed wire.

In total I'll probably make 3-4 alien rats. Just when you thought we had the situation under control a rat showed up riding one of these giant spiders. It will be carrying some heavy armanment so we may be in for more than we bargained on.

The rat patrol vehicle will be blasting over a small pile of rocks (front wheels in the air- squished rat under one of the rear wheels) and I have put together a small circuit board with alterenating (flashing) red and blue lights that I have to hide somewhere on the RPV.

Small scale...grumble, grumble, Can you imagine if I tried to do this in 1/8th? I'd have to add another room to house!

Tonite and tonite only !! See the Incredible Dr. Cranky and Grandpa McGurk team up to take on Alien Invaders on this episode of Mystery Model Theater 3000. Watch in disbelief as the Despotic Duo reign fire, chemicals and chaos down on these otherworldly cowards. As the tide turns however and our heroes seem doomed to allow the world to come under the control of these evil beasts, Death From Above is the battlecry as 40 Airborne paratroopers descend with all barrels blazing............

Um, sorry, I don't know how this ends yet.

Or how about a flattened rat stuck to one of the tires? Kind of like when a cartoon character gets run over by a steamroller?
