Chuck Most
Yes, and usually my wheel choice 'breaks' the model.

LAone
i go by the same ideal. they will make or brake any car or truck. i have seen some very nice rides and sometimes the wheels just dont look right with the look trying to be accomplished. i too have a couple of builds that i held off on cause of wheels. i will be revisiting them sometime soon. Darin Bastedo
if a set of wheels is that important to the build, I will just scratch build a set.
Tonioseven
Wheels usually come first, then a color choice.
Tonioseven
You got my attention with this topic. The wheels and stance are everything when it comes to making or breaking a model , and a real car for that mater. You can have the best paint job ,with a fully detailed interior and under carriage, and ruin everything with the wrong wheels. Wheels are one of the things that got me back to building. I've made a set of wheels a few years before I started building again . I've been working on a set of real 13" wheels and 5.20 -13 for my lowrider models. I have three sets of wheels finished , just need to finish the master for the tire before I cast them. I will say it's nice to see that there is alot more options in this hobby when it comes to wheel choices, than we had in the past. Amen... Dr. Cranky
Yes, all of the time, but my wheels and tires parts box is messy so it takes longer some times.
whale392
I look at the overall goal of what I am trying to build, and wheels/tires/stance is the FIRST consideration I deal with. I will look for overall appeal with what I have, or will look for the 'right' set before I even start a build. it even trumps color choice as most important. Attitude of the build will eventually choose the color.
trogdor
Wheels can change an entire build for me. I just started a Revell Bullitt 68 mustang. I wasn't too happy about the kit tires and rims. After looking at some rims I had, I'm taking the car in an entirely different direction and one I probably wouldn't have ever considered. Jantrix
who here holds off on builds like i do due to lack of having the right set of wheels or stance. Wheels...........not so much. There are usually a few options that I would be happy with. Stance? Oh yeah, that's a major design issue for me. As well as getting that stance and still having the model look mechanically correct. Guest Johnny
I wish there was a good source of 60's style mags like US or Anson slots even Cragar SS and Keystone Classics with the logo caps in wides and narrows. Also letter size 50&60 profile tires to go with them!

GOTH KUSTOMS
Me personally, it's the stance, then the wheel/tire combination, also helps in deciding my color of choice, total attitude, of the build...
Psychographic
I think they do. As in real life, the first things you see are the paint and then the wheel tire combination. Edited October 2, 2011 by Psychographic

peekay
Nearly all my builds don't wear the kit-supplied tyres. Either because the car needed whitewalls that weren't in the kit or the wheels didn't fit the tyres. Amazing how often one or both these things apply - I've got a shoe-box full of kit tyres. Ben
This thread is ironic to me! Wheels are everything to me when it comes to models! so much so that I have mastered and cast about twenty different truck wheels, contracted machinists to make real aluminum wheels and designed several different lug nuts that RB Motion makes. The only thing I worked on this weekend was machining the sidewalls off those "one sided" Monogram Snap Tite tires so I could place them into the back of another tire (same kind) and make the tires look like they are supposed too! I hate when you look under a model and see a tire with no sidewall!
