CEKPETHO BCE Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Hey there. I've been looking for an orange duplicolor paint for some time now and for some reason I cant find any. Today I found some, but it's the engine enamel variety. On the pack it says it has to be applied to bare metal. My question is can I use engine enamel paint for plastic model cars (over duplicolor primer) and if not, where can I find some orange paint for model cars? I'm not friends with air brushing by the way. Thanks
CEKPETHO BCE Posted October 16, 2011 Author Posted October 16, 2011 Also, does anyone know if duplicolor makes the ford grabber blue or the dodge sublime green?
highway Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 I can't answer the question about the DupliColor, but I can tell you that Testor's has just about any shade of orange you could want in their lacquer sprays. GM Hugger Orange, Ford Grabber Orange, and Mopar Hemi Orange, you name it they got it! Here's my 09 Dodge Challenger painted with the Hemi Orange.
highway Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Also, does anyone know if duplicolor makes the ford grabber blue or the dodge sublime green? Also check the Testor's lacquers, I'm almost 1000% they have both colors.
CEKPETHO BCE Posted October 16, 2011 Author Posted October 16, 2011 The only place I know of that sells testors products is MIchael's and they seem to have limit availability of colors. Do you know where else I could get those paints in Toronto, Canada?
highway Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Is there no hobby shops in Toronto?? The only other thing I could think of to help you is try online.
CEKPETHO BCE Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 There are, but I don't ever recall seeing testors lacquers anywhere. Most hobby stores I go to carry whole bunch of tamiya enamel sprays, but I only remember seeing testors sprays at the Michaels. Thanks anyways though. At least I know what to look for.

Do you have Hobby Lobby's in Canada? The one by me carries a great selection of Testors Lacquers.

Maybe the next time you stop in, you might try asking if they can start carrying it. Or at least order some in for you? It wouldn't hurt to ask, the worst they can do is say no.
lowriderphil Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 If its the dupli-color engine paint I think it is it, it dries kind of rough, although I have in the past wetsanded it and cleared it with okay results
Nick Winter Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Did you Try Duplicolors Auto Touch-up line? They seem to have a decent variety, and while it may not be named what your looking for, it may be the right shade. Nick
Jantrix Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 This was painted with the Duplicolor engine orange with no issues. I hit it with matte clear after.
scalenut Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 (edited) I used the duplicolor orange high heat engine enamel before ,, ,, it came out beautiful. It has ceramic in it, but sprays like a dream ,very glossy. I did spray duplicolor primer first http://www.duplicolo...ts/enginePaint/ Edited October 19, 2011 by scalenut
CEKPETHO BCE Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 Thanks guys. That's what I was looking for. To Nick, yes I have tried duplicolor touch up/perfect match, but I cannot find any orange in their selection Maybe I should give engine enamel orange a try.
mcandela Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Duplicolor does have the ford grabber blue and the dodge sublime green. They come in there automotive line of spray cans. (big cans)
mikemodeler Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Andrew, give it a try and see what results you get. It goes without saying that you should try a few test pieces before hitting a body, just to check to see if there any issues or adverse reactions.
